RIP Roberto Orci, Dead at 51

That's really sad, he worked on a lot of shows and movies that I loved. I have to wonder if he's been sick for a while and that's why he wasn't involved with any of the new Trek shows. I had been under the impression from stuff they said while promoting the Kelvin movies, that Orci was the bigger Trekkie, so I was a little shocked he hasn't worked on any of the shows with Kurtzman. I checked Wikipedia and IMDB and he doesn't have any credits after 2016 other than a EP credit on Hawaii 5-0 and I have no idea if he was ever hands on with that.

Damn, that comes unexpected. 51 is way, way too young to go.

May he forever be remembered through the hours of entertainment he created. :(

4, I thought Into Darkness was great overall. My one and only issue is I wish they had cast an Indian actor as Khan rather than Benedict Cumberbatch, or at least had the bit from the Khan comic about Marcus changing his appearance when he revived him. Cumberbatch did a great job, but he doesn't exactly look like an Indian Sikh.

Exactly as much as Montalban did.

They shouldn't have used Khan at all. But that's the way a guy like Abrams thinks. "It's the second movie, so you gotta do Khan." That's bad enough, but then you cast a white guy? Normally you have to be a US president to fuck things up this badly.

It doesn't help that TOS doesn't really have a lot of recurring villain characters to use in the first place, unlike TNG or DS9 that had recurring characters like that

Yeah, if I were making the decisions, I wouldn't have used Khan either. My idea would have been to have Harrison be one of Khan's followers instead of Khan himself, and then set up for Khan to show up in the next movie played by an actual Indian actor.

I'd rather that they not have rehashed Khan at all.

Yeah, that was an option too, but I can see the appeal of wanting to do the series one big villain. To me it's the same as a new Batman doing their take on the Joker, or Spider-Man and Doc Ock.
