I thought he was just extensively modified to look like a person that previously existed and had his memories altered too.

I could be a little mistaken, Discovery season 1 does not typically get included in a rewatch
Yeah, there was a real Ash Tyler. Just recalled that in the original TOS pitch there was a Jose Ortegas who became Joe Tyler. And we've now seen a Tyler and an Ortegas in Trek.

I mentioned in an earlier comment we saw Arne Darvin as a surgically altered Klingon of a similar age and he seemed without any of the benefits of Klingon physiology and seemed comparible to an old human man
Arne Darvin would at best be 130 as of DS9, quite a few decades older than a S31 Voq would be (who'd be more like 90, assuming Voq and Darvin were in their 20s in their DISCO and TOS appearances respectively), and DS9 Arne Darvin wasn't really that frail (in fact he was implied to be running around doing quite a bit behind the scenes in that DS9 episode)

I don't know really. Saru mentioned him being a human with a Klingon grafted to his bones. That's crazy talk and needlessly convoluted, but it's seriously grotesque imagery and probably..cool?

Poor Shazad Latif. Not only was he not asked back for Section 31, but his Captain Nemo prequel miniseries (one of the few Verne adaptations where the actor at least resembles the Indian heritage that Nemo was written as) isn't even currently available to view in the US.

Somehow I think there may be a chance he's happy that he wasn't asked to do S31, despite the other things.

Section 31 was never fully planned
(I know they're banned, I just need this quote for context)

S31 was fully planned, as one season not a movie. They then took that full season and condensed some of the plot into one movie.

They admitted in an interview of cherry picking ideas.

Such a shame we didn’t get to spend more time on the Section 31 ship they designed for the movie, because that looks rather cool. I totally missed that it’s asymmetrical.

The diagram makes it look like the nacelles are filled to the brim with photon torpedos.

Not a fan. Looks like something left on the drawing board after DISCO shuttered.

Alok says that Giri the Marked "died like she lived" but unless I forgot something, he doesn't outright say she died during the Eugenics Wars. Which means Giri could in fact be one of the unnamed Augment women seen in Space Seed or Wrath of Khan and her violent death is in fact the destruction of the USS Reliant and Alok heard about her end after the fact.

Also, if turning humans into augments was a thing, wonder if Khan considered genetically altering Marla McGivers in such a way (although possibly once they were on Ceti Alpha V they wouldn't have the technology on hand for such a procedure).

That could be true, sure, but I like the idea of Giri leading one of the factions Khan was fighting better. I like having a name for one of the other major powers there.

Yet, somehow couldn't tell at the script stage that what they were giving us was pretty much shit.
