Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet watched a 35mm print of the film: “I was a little bit concerned to watch my film – maybe I won’t like it?” he says. “No, it was great! I have a lot of shots that I love. For the people who don’t like it, I can say, ‘f*** you!’”
It was definitely the Theatrical Cut, as the Assembly Cut isn't on Disney+.
The Alien 3 Assembly Cut is one of the rare instances in all of film where an alternate version / edit ends up being a significant upgrade. For me, it elevates the film from one of the worst (theatrical cut) to right up there near Alien 1 and 2.Pity.
Mileage varies of course, but for my money it's not so rare. Just so long as you discount all those awful "Unrated Cut!" releases that were so popular for a time. The Alien 3 Assembly Cut is one of the rare instances in all of film where an alternate version / edit ends up being a significant upgrade.
The vast majority of those are 120 seconds longer at best.Mileage varies of course, but for my money it's not so rare. Just so long as you discount all those awful "Unrated Cut!" releases that were so popular for a time.
I guess there are some other good examples. Off the top of my head, even the "Aliens" Director's Cut was better than the theatrical, especially given that it advanced Ripley's character as a "surrogate mother" to Newt via the news of her daughter's death.Mileage varies of course, but for my money it's not so rare. Between this and the new Alien: Earth series airing later this year, it's a pretty good time to be an Alien Franchise fan!

I have concerns about that series because Hawley is not especially known for giving a crap about continuity.Between this and the new Alien: Earth series airing later this year, it's a pretty good time to be an Alien Franchise fan!
That's a good point, but it's not like Alien has been an outstanding beacon of continuity to begin with.I have concerns about that series because Hawley is not especially known for giving a crap about continuity.
They've already said the series will be ignoring the Xenomorph's backstory from Prometheus and Covenant.I have concerns about that series because Hawley is not especially known for giving a crap about continuity.
Actually, it is said that there is another Alien movie in the preparation phase besides Romulus. This could be Romulus 2. Apart from this, it would be nice if the sequel to Covenant was made into a 6-episode FX mini-series with Ridley Scott writing and directing each episode, starring Michael Fassbender, and the story ended. And Ridley Scot saying he's doing a sequel to Covenant. I know, not everyone is waiting for that. But I am!![]()

In Prometheus, there were Xenomorph images on the walls of the engineers' planet. David probably didn't create the Xenomorph. They've already said the series will be ignoring the Xenomorph's backstory from Prometheus and Covenant.

So the story there is not completely ignored.
That was a spaceship. The Engineers' planet was not shown in that film.In Prometheus, there were Xenomorph images on the walls of the engineers' planet.
This is my shocked face.JD said:They've already said the series will be ignoring the Xenomorph's backstory from Prometheus and Covenant.
Because judging by the box office of Covenant, I'm not sure the sequel will attract much attention in the cinema.Actually, it is said that there is another Alien movie in the preparation phase besides Romulus. Seems a bit early to be saying that since we don't know what the show will be doing.Actually, it is said that there is another Alien movie in the preparation phase besides Romulus. Ok I remember but we still come to the same conclusion. David did not create the Xenomorph. That was a spaceship. The Engineers' planet was not shown in that film.
