Trek writers original works

Did this a year ago, and why not do it again?

While I did have some Trek short fiction published this year -- "You Can't Buy Fate" was reprinted in Star Trek: "The Mission" and Other Stories, both "The Kellidian Kidnapping" and "Work Worth Doing" were reprinted in Star Trek: "A Year to the Day that I Saw Myself Die" and Other Stories, and my stories "Attempted Break-In" and "The Sirius Snarl" appeared in Star Trek Explorer -- I also had a bunch of non-Trek work published in 2024:

Novels
  • A Furnace Sealed (reissue with new cover and new publisher), Book 1 of the Adventures of Bram Gold
  • Feat of Clay, Book 2 of the Adventures of Bram Gold

Short fiction (besides the Trek stuff mentioned above)
  • "Stop Dragon My Heart Around," a tale of Cassie Zukav, weirdness magnet, in A Trove of Legacies: The Origins 2024 Anthology
  • "Progenitor," a Professor Challenger story, in A Cry of Hounds ("Forgotten Lore" Book 2)
  • "House Party," bonus story in the limited-edition hardcover of A Furnace Sealed
  • "Wake Me Up Before You Wendigo," bonus story in the limited-edition hardcover of Feat of Clay
  • "Blinded by the Light," a Luminosity story, also featuring Sarcastic Fringehead, La Sombra, and others, in the shared-world superhero anthology Phenomenons: The Wind and Fire
  • "Death Row" in Sherlock Holmes: Cases by Candlelight Volume 3
  • "The Norwood Contractor," a tale of Shirley Holmes & Jack Watson, in Multiverse of Mystery
Comic books
  • Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness: The Beginning, graphic novel collecting the five-issue miniseries, art by Carmelo Zagaria
  • "The Hynerian Prisoner" in Farscape 25th Anniversary Special, art by Francesco Mortarino & Christian Prunesti
Nonfiction
  • "Together Again for the Millionth Time," a look at the appearances of the Human Torch in Marvel Team-Up, in Walking the Wider Web: A Fan's Journey Through One of Comics' Greatest Series
  • commentary on "America: A Prophecy" by William Blake in Shadows and Verse: Classic Dark Poems with Celebrity Commentary
  • for Reactor Magazine: finished the Star Trek: Enterprise Rewatch, commenced the Babylon 5 Rewatch, did new entries in "4-Color to 35-Millimeter: The Great Superhero Movie Rewatch," and did reviews of Star Trek: Discovery season 5, The Umbrella Academy season 4, Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, The Penguin season 1, and Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5
  • for my Patreon: reviewed a mess of TV shows and movies

Now available for preorder, Sherlock Holmes: Eliminate the Impossible, which features four alternate takes on the great detective by four nifty authors with Trek connections:
  • Derek Tyler Attico (The Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko, Star Trek Adventures)
  • Christopher D. Abbott (Star Trek articles for ScreenRant)
  • Mary Fan (StarTrek.com)
  • Keith R.A. DeCandido (Articles of the Federation, Star Trek Explorer)
The stories range from modern-day reinterpretations -- my story of Shirley Holmes and Jack Watson matching wits with Ira Adler in contemporary New York City and Chris's tale of Sebastian Holmes and John Watson IV solving a murder in 1970s Ohio -- to early-20th-century Holmes-adjacent yarns -- Mary's chronicle of the great detective's half-Chinese grand-daughter Sheridan Holmes in 1922 and Derek's team-up of Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini in 1900.

Bumping this thread to remind folks about a new anthology featuring various monsters and other supernatural creatures transplanted into the real events of the second world war, Combat Monsters: Untold Tales of World War II, edited by Henry L. Herz, published by Blackstone Publishing.

It comes out this Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in trade paperback, ebook, and digital audiobook formats.

My story in this anthology is called Bockscar,” and it’s the final tale in the book. I really enjoyed writing this story, and I hope some of you will take the time to give it a look.

Nice, purchased!

KRAD has a kickstarter for his latest "Dragon Precinct" universe book - I love the series. Check it out!

Hey folks! My new series, Supernatural Crimes Unit: NYPD Book 1: The Thin Blue Ley-Line, is now available for preorder! It'll be out on the 28th of October (just in time for Hallowe'en! and holiday shopping!) from the Weird Tales Presents imprint of Blackstone Publishing, in hardcover, eBook, and audio (reader TBA).

I put all the preorder links up on my blog. Please, if you're a fan of my Trek work, consider clicking on one of the preorder links. This will only be a series if there's sufficient interest in Book 1, and preorders are a great way to show that!

Here's the cover copy:
From USA Today bestselling author Keith R. A. DeCandido comes a paranormal mystery of epic proportions.

When Detective Domenica Kiernan solved the murder of a mayor's aide--killed by a vampire--she never imagined she'd find herself at the vanguard of the NYPD's latest special squad: the Supernatural Crimes Unit.

Tasked with closing cases involving magic and monsters, the SCU has dealt with a shape-changing domovoy committing assault in Chelsea, the murder of a kappa on City Island, a thieving Taotie in Chinatown--and their latest, two murder victims whose corpses have been liquefied by a powerful spell.

Kiernan and the rest of the SCU must find the connection between the two victims and figure out who cast the spell that destroyed the corpses. Soon, their investigation leads to a malevolent magic-user who yearns for limitless power, whose plans go far beyond disposing of a dead body. He'll stop at nothing to achieve his goals--including kidnapping Bobby, Kiernan's ten-year-old son.

The SCU has no choice: they must go rogue to find Bobby and stop the wizard before he unleashes hell on Earth!

And here's the cover, designed by the mighty Jeff Wong:

As @Corran Horn indicated above, I've got a Kickstarter running for a new short story collection called Dragon Precinct: Origins. It will be eight tales telling the backstories of the various detectives in the Cliff's End Castle Guard -- not just main characters Torin ban Wyvald and Danthres Tresyllione, but also supporting characters Iaian, Amilar Grovis, Dru, Hawk, Manfred, Arn Kellan, Dannee Ocly, and Aleta lothLathna.

The Trek BBS doesn't allow links to crowdfunds, but the details are on my blog, or you can just find me on Facebook, Blue Sky, Instagram, Twitter, or Threads.
