Stuff that make you wonder but not own thread worthy

Are the Progenitors mentioned in "When the Bough Breaks" season 1 the same as the ones from "The Chase"? Seems likely.

I sincerely doubt it. They just happened to use that same term the Federation used to name those from "The Chase".
In one context, progenitors are mysterious humanoids who effectively sired most of the sentient life in the universe.

In another, progenitors are the early Aldeans from hundreds of centuries past who built a planet-sized cloaking device, so that the people could devote themselves to making art. As a result, they all would up infertile, they then resorted to kidnapping, and Deanna wound up delivering a line that was cringe even by her standards.

"Crazy" is a song by Aerosmith. And Seal. But they are COMPLETELY different songs.

"Creep" was a Stone Temple Pilots song. "Creep" was also a song by Radiohead. Totally different, too.

Just because they had the name used for both does not mean they were the same thing. The Progenitors from "The Chase" would likely be much more powerful than the Aldeans were, given the complexity of what was seen in DISCO season 5. (Yes, 1988 visual effects couldn't possibly make it similar, but the Aldeans basically had a cloak for a planet and a massively powerful repulsor beam. It's not small time, but certainly not massively more powerful than most other empires at the time.)

And considering they couldn't even help their own people with the radiation and infertility issues but Dr. Crusher was able to solve it for them, while the aliens from "The Chase" have a clearly FAR more advanced genetic and medical knowledge and technology, I definitely have to call this one as merely a coincidental naming.

Not to mention that cloaking your own planet seems a bit at odds (in terms of attitude) with seeding life all over the galaxy, though it isn't necessarily irreconcilable.

It would be a crazy irony if the species that seeded life all over the galaxy was ultimately wiped out by infertility.

And yes, it's my head canon that while Beverly was able to restore the Aldeans' health, a quirk of their reproduction made their sterility irreversible. That's why we never hear of them again, despite their amazing technology: they vanished behind their shield/cloak and died out.

It’s still weird to me that Rios was willing to go back to Starfleet after PIC S1, knowing (and having been traumatized by) Starfleet having black flag directives and the ability to remotely detonate its ships. I guess one could rationalize that all that happened under the watch of a leader who’s no longer present, but still.

I'm glad the series never gave us any evidence that Starfleet actually could or ever would blow up their own ships remotely. It means it's plausible that it was a bluff. I mean, even the Confederation couldn't remotely destroy La Sirena, and all of the times the villains took over entire Federation fleets they still had to blow up vessels the old fashioned way.

I mean, they could have seeded life then let it go.

Probably a security measure out in due to fears after the Dominion War.

Ever since characters mentioned spending days to weeks in a shuttlecraft, and fans have pointed out a lack of toilets on the Enterprise, I have always wondered, where do they go to the bathroom in the shuttlecraft?

On a runabout (and the Enterprise), I am sure there are, uh, facilities that we don't see. But what about the Type 15, Type 9 Shuttles? The shuttle Geordi took to Risa before being abducted by Romulans? Typically, there are no additional compartments/lavatories and they are not wearing any kind of flight suits. There are seats, benches, replicators and that's all, folks.

I can image perhaps replicating bedpans/urinals or maybe creatively using the transporter, but beyond that, I got nothing?

I just imagine Scotty is facing a retractable commode, either in one of those boxes, or inside the bench. A retractable sink, like Riker's in Schisms, might be in the other box. The benches might extend into small beds. The cockpit rear might have a small retractable table for dining. The cockpit wall might be able to erect an opaque forcefield, for privacy. Use your imagination.

I like this so much better than my crappy transporter / replicator theory. (Pun, of course, intended.) :vulcan::rommie:

It was really this exchange in the Voyager episode "Drone" that maybe me wonder "How does that work?!"

TORRES: I don't know about you, but I've got a case of class two claustrophobia.
PARIS: Ah, I remember it well.
SEVEN: Lieutenant?
TORRES: Oh, that's what Starfleet cadets used to call these class two shuttles. Fast, maneuverable, but not built for comfort.
PARIS: They used to shoehorn half a dozen cadets into one of these things for weeks at a time. You did not want to be around when they opened up that airlock.
SEVEN: Perhaps you should design a new shuttle. Larger, more efficient.
TORRES: Not a bad idea.

Maybe, to paraphrase Zephram Cochrane, people from the 24th century DON'T ever pee.
