Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Eurovision's been around since the 1950s. So this won't quite be the same as S1's tribute to flavor of the month reality TV shows.

Isn't it a bit late to be worrying about that sort of thing in Doctor Who? And besides, is it really any different or worse than Star Trek depicting galactic civilization as Space America?

The episode title wouldn't have been made public like this unless that wrangling had already been taken care of.

Oh I’m not saying we shouldn’t do allegory in SF or Who. Or kooky. But (a) when you do allegory you make it subtle (unless you’re a full on parody show, and even then…) you don’t call an episode ‘space nazi’s’. The fan base will do that for you. (I appreciate the joke and why it’s there, for instance, but ‘Let’s Kill Hitler’ is terrible as a title for Who.) I also don’t trust current RTD not to offensively fuck up.

Disney+ 2025 line-up, which based on those series with release windows already announced would seem to be in chronological order. 'Daredevil' starts early March and 'Andor' in late April which would put S2 between those dates; which would tie in with the finale being set in early May.

'Marvel Zombies' is October and 'Wonder Man' December suggesting November for TWBTLAS.

Interesting. Given RTD's comments just after New Year's about War Between Land and Sea being not airing "for awhile" I assumed that meant 2026, but if we are in fact getting it sometime in 2025 like that suggests, that's pretty much in line with when I was originally expecting it. Though I originally expected it summer or early fall, say September-ish.

Oddly shorn of any Doctor Who branding. And a *terrible* logo. Even as a placeholder. Makes it look like Flipper.

Yeah, I didn't expect to see that included either, and if these are in chronological order DW is a lot earlier than I expected too.

That actually consistent with leaked reports about the finale which has it taking place on a particular date in May, as well as comments RTD made in the fall about the new season of Doctor Who "coming sooner than you think."

Wasn’t this anticipated? I remember something about them speeding up production so Ncuti could have some time off for other projects without it creating a big gap between seasons.

Yeah, that was for Series 2, which they finished shooting in May of last year. If they're not expecting to shoot anything in 2025 that means no Christmas Special this year and no series next year.

Does that have to mean they aren't filming DW at all in 2025, couldn't they just be looking for stuff to fill up other parts of the year?

Has this list of new DW writers, including Juno Dawson, previously been mentioned here?
Don't know the answer to your question, though I am going to point out Juno Dawson previously wrote a Doctor Who NSA novel, The Good Doctor from 2018 with the Thirteenth Doctor. While it was probably the most memorable of the batch of three novels it was released with, it's rather painfully meta, the novel starts with the Doctor and her team saving a planet, then for reasons they end up returning to that world a century or so in the future to discover that the people have turned the Doctor into a revered figure in their culture, only they think Graham is the Doctor because he's the white male in the group. In case you haven't figured out, the planet's population are supposed to be a stand in for Internet Idiots, complete with many of their trademarked remarks, like when the Doctor tries to insist she's actually the Doctor, their response is "oh, please, you're obviously his nurse."

Like I said, painfully meta.

Still amazing how Dawson gets to write for the series, and especially with RTD, given that back in 2003/4 they were bombarding the BBC with hate mail about him getting the job to the extent that the prospect of legal action against them was raised.

They apologised post-transition claiming the person who did those things no longer existed, which is a convenient excuse.

In addition to novels, Juno Dawson created and wrote Redacted, the first official Doctor Who BBC spinoff for the podcast medium three years ago. If there was bad blood between Dawson and the BBC it's long gone on both sides.

Meanwhile Nicholas Briggs sweats day in and day out, voicing Daleks in amazing productions and he'll never get the chance to plug in some goodness for the new series.
