And Mike and Rich Evans are up!

Poor Rich.

While it's fun to watch them writhe, I think they're overestimating the extent to which Section 31 represents something TPTB actually want. My feeling is it's the cheapest way Paramount had to discharge contractual obligations to Yeoh et al. The stupid chipper press circuit doesn't matter. Of course they're going to paste on fake smiles and talk it up. It's all fake.

Again, this movie was made only because Yeoh still wanted to do it. There was no contract. While I’m not privy to Kurtzman’s thought processes, I would very much like it if he learned the lesson that you shouldn’t cater to people just because they want a vanity project. He didn’t learn that lesson with Patrick Stewart, so here’s hoping he did learn something here before Tawny’s pet project gets the green light.

It could be both. A contract and Yeoh's desire.

A series seems fairly likely at this point, and I'm sure they'll be happy to expand the character stories. Sec31 is a victim of its success a lot of people want to see more of the characters.
The rating on IMDB for Section 31 is a 3.9. That's just barely above Batman & Robin, which IMDB has rated as a 3.8. Think about that for a minute. It's done.

All other Star Trek series and movies, even the most divisive ones or that caused the most stir, are more highly-regarded collectively. It's almost universal where S31 stands.

And if my grandmother had wheels....

With the Edsel, Decca turning down The Beatles and New Coke.

A series didn't happen before, so it won't happen now. To S31's detriment, I might add.

Bloody-mindedness might yield another TV movie, but that's going to take a lot of finger crossing if anyone desperately wants it.

I don't see a followup movie or a series happening in the near future. With the merger and the plates they've already got spinning I think they're probably busy enough. It also doesn't seem there's anything planned for them to come back that's public knowledge, so if they wanted to it might be quite the wait before things got off the ground, like with Strange New Worlds after Discovery Season 2.

Even then I don't know who they could get back for it. Of the survivors, I don't see Michelle Yeoh coming back unless they're prepared to spend most of the budget on her salary, Sam Richardson's been on a rise so he might not be as easy to get back, and Omari Hardwick seems to stay pretty busy. Rohl and Ruygrok might be the most get-able, but even then who knows where they'll be.

Even assuming you could get them back in a reasonable amount of time, with the overall reception 31's gotten it seems like it'd be similar to how the Halo show went down.

The Schadenfreude side of me enjoys seeing Rich watch this.

Watching it now. Dear God, Mike put Jay through this?!

I really wish they would just fire Kururtzman and hire someone that has respect for the source material.

He’d need a consecutive string of failures before that could happen. This seems to be the first major flop on all counts.

Next would have to be the third season of SNW and STARFLEET ACADEMY. If those fail hard, that’ll make things uneasy for Kurtzman.
