Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Now I want a JAG officer to do a little episode review. Could be fun.
Not a JAG officer, but here's a video of an actual lawyer on TNG's The Measure of a Man:

Not at all Star Trek related, but that very same YouTube channel also features an actual former JAG officer on the pilot episode of the series JAG:

Yes, I like Legal Eagle. He and the JAG lawyer also reviewed A Few Good Men which is quite fun.

That Elon Musk line hasn't aged well.

Guess that's the problem with a "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE" writer's room.

I could see Lorca as a Republican. Or the 23rd Century equivalent.

Mirror Universe or not, in my headcanon, as soon as Stamets heard him say that line he probably thought, "Oh! You're one of those... " Another reason for Stamets not to like him.

EDITED TO ADD: I see Stamets as being the equivalent of a staunch progressive-wing Democrat. And other than actually being in Starfleet, I could see him agreeing with David Marcus, "Scientists have always been pawns to the military!" Stamets would probably rationalize being in Starfleet by telling someone like David that he's fighting from within the system.

However, in the second season they doubled down and established there's a school in the Prime Universe named after Elon Musk. It's the junior high Tilly attended.
It's called Musk. I wouldn't be surprised if one of Elon Musk's descendants managed to do something worthy of getting grade schools named after them.

Considering the M5 incident took place a quarter of a century after he made the duotronic breakthrough, it's possible the Daystrom Institute was named as such before the M5 situation.

Another possibility... Starfleet decided not to let what happened be widely circulated, so the everyday person who would likely go to the Institute wouldn't know anything about M5 and Daystrom's fate.

It's still rather amusing to me (Tuesdays are my easily amused days) that the man ends up killing hundreds yet still gets the honor.

Yes, what you say are distinct possibilities, but people have lost honors over less.

It goes against custom to name a place after someone still living. I don't see that changing in the future, so...

This is what I would lean towards.

I'm just getting around to Season 5 now. Following up on TNG's "The Chase" is an, um, interesting notion to say the least. But I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes.

Because those types understanding of science (or the real world) doesn't extend beyond Facebook memes.

Yeah, still not getting it. What “types” are you referring to? Understanding “science “ has never been a top priority of any Trek writer’s room. Even when actual scientists turned writers were involved. So Musk isn’t quite the guy people thought he was when Disco (or Iron Man II for that matter) were written. That’s hardly the fault of the writers.
