The Oberth class lower hull is modular and can be swapped for other types of pod based on mission profile. There are science pods (like the Grissom), cargo pods, troop/personnel transport pods, weapons pods, etc.
Access to these pods is not turbolifts through the struts because the struts are too small. Instead there are dedicated hard-wired site to site transporters that only operate between the saucer and pod.
I hope the wiring is extra hard and not the usual shoddy Starfleet job.The Oberth class lower hull is modular and can be swapped for other types of pod based on mission profile. There are science pods (like the Grissom), cargo pods, troop/personnel transport pods, weapons pods, etc.

A modular Oberth would closely resemble how a lot of Starfleet tugs and tanker ships look but be a lot more practical than what we've actually seen onscreen since 1984.
I've always been rather fond of the Ptoleny-class tugs from the Franz Joseph manual. I wish his estate would let them be used onscreen

A guy in a blue box helped end the timewar.
Only after causing it.
i wonder if section 31 manipulated both the creation of the spore drive and the scenario that sends Discovery to the future? What if Control was actually under control, and all part of a giant gambit to create, then remove Discovery from the timeline? What if the entire show, even Lorca, was all the machinations of Section 31 to preserve or create a future, after the events of First Contact destroyed the entire timeline and utopian Federation? After the timewar, Section 31 is tasked with preserving the Federation, from foundation through to coming out of the timewar / burn on the right side - in the 31st century.
i'm saying none of that was true, it was all optics to get discovery and the spore drive into the future. them being "destroyed" was them going into hiding. that they manipulate things in the background from ENT thru DSCS02 to preserve the federation and its future. just randomly speculating based on my own previously posted headcanon, going further down that tangent.Section 31 intentionally coming up with a plan that gets them all killed and all organic life in the galaxy eradicated sounds very on-brand for them.
