Still don't get why Brian Williams of NBC lost his job

Happy Hopping

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt

so his memory mistakenly recalled 1 incident back 10 yr. ago, that was wrong. So what? Just today, my memory told me a piece of tool that I have, I am certain it's in the basement, turns out it's in the garage. So Brian Williams made 1 mistake that was a wrong recall of a 10 yr. old incident. That's just a human mistake

what I don't get is: NBC kill him just for that? and why noone hire him since?

Unless I miss my guess, you aren't a trusted news anchor and you didn't tell your missing tool story on air.

They didn't kill him, he went on to continue working for NBC for another six years. And earning way more than any of us for it so I'm sure he's fine.

but he's 62 when he quit. What is it he doing for the next 20 yr.? it looks like Amazon gives him a try out on election night, and there is no buzz since. You really think a person like that just quit at age 62? I thought his career never goes back since that incident. Remind me of that CNN lawyer who exposed himself, got the job back, then shortly after, quit

true enough. It seems more than that. It seems that's the surface story. We have read a lot of these famous people, that the reason the network departure announcement is not the real reason.

Take a look at NCIS Hawaii, you and I both know what the real reason the show ends

We had a well-regarded female news anchor in Canada that hadn't done anything wrong other than just aging. The company had promptly fired her without giving a reason, and it shocked everyone even her. The company had handled it terribly, and really dragged their feet on issuing an apology. I think she eventually ended up working for a competitor

what's her name

Lisa LaFlamme. There was quite the furor, and a lot of us haven’t really forgiven Bell over it. A (male) Bell Media VP took issue with the fact that she stopped dying her grey hair during the pandemic.

In the interest of full disclosure, there were also details leaked about a possible disagreement over budget for coverage of the war in Ukraine, and rumours about her possibly contributing to a toxic workplace environment. However, that came out after the accusations of misogyny and ageism, so it’s a little hard to determine if there was truth to them, or Bell was just trying to cover themselves.

After a workplace review after the incident, the VP that took issue with her hair was transferred out of the news division, but was allowed to retain a high-paying executive job in another part of the company. Because of course he was.

She did a couple special correspondent gigs for CityNews covering Elizabeth II’s death and Charles’s coronation, but I don’t think she got another full-time job in news.

He lied about something that cast into doubt his character and reliability as a journalist.

I see it now. She is around 54 at the time, so she shouldn't have grey hair, but someone age sooner than other.

But that's the whole deal w/ TV networks / hollywood movies in general, they push the younger, more attractive news anchor to the front, and the older one ends up doing minor role. For e.g., have you seen Michelle Pfeiffer on any leading role movie lately? Take a look at those young news anchor at CNBC. Network is about rating, movies / TV series is about rating.

In a way, that new movie by Demi Moore , The Substance says it all.

Yeah, it caused Bell quite a bit of PR flak. It's a ridiculous reasoning for firing someone. I know lots of people who used to dye their hair, including my Mom, who decided they didn't need to continue during the pandemic.

And at the same time, you can be pretty sure if a Male anchor were in the same position with grey hair, that it would never be an issue.

As for aging sooner, everybody's different. Just look at Anderson Cooper who wears his white hair as a badge of honor, while still looking fairly young. And I have a whole head of grey hair and I'm not even 50 yet. I started getting grey hair in my late 30's.

Quoted for truth. For an example, you only have to look at LaFlamme’s predecessor, Lloyd Robertson, who was allowed to age at the anchor desk and eventually retired on his own terms.

Williams left NBC to pursue his rap career. ;)

but the problem is, society aka TV network gauge men vs. women differently. You do a search on the search engine under "
What has Famke Janssen done to her face?"

and women like her, Renee Zellweger, Hollywood force them to do surgery and in their cases, the surgery gone horribly

Hollywood men doesn't have to do cosmetic surgery, they still get iconic role.
