Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

As long as they don't pull the same shit they did with Discovery - a complete series boxset that comes with an exclusive bonus disc as a slap in the face to everyone that's been buying the seasons each year.

I hope that cover art is what the final product looks like for the full series. I’m not a huge fan of the static, generic boring cover art for the full series of Disco and Picard. Plus in invokes the old TOS Movies VHS set, which is very on brand.

Not saying you did wrong, or that it’s not a slap in the face. But stuff like that is why I always wait for the full series set instead of buying each season individually.

This game of chicken doesn't always end well. CBS/Paramount is one of the most supportive studios of TV on Blu-ray. They (and to be fair, Universal) put out series that the other studios simply wouldn't. But they aren't afraid to downgrade or drop series that aren't selling. Many people say EVIL is good. Well, I've never gotten around to checking it out, but apparently the final season was released DVD only.

STLD season 1 received a steelbook variant. No such luck for season 2. Season 3 was initially manufacture-on-demand only. Then that season was reissued for wide release, followed by normal wide release announcements for seasons 4 and 5. Reversals like that are incredibly rare. At least there isn't some frustrating situation where season 5 will only be available in a limited run from a company in Australia, Germany, or (break out $100) Japan. Or worse, you need to buy the "Chinese edition" off eBay to get anything close to a complete run.

DISCOVERY wise... that series is known to be divisive, especially to the core Blu-ray buying demographic. I don't like the series, but respect is due for it being able to maintain a steelbook release for each succeeding season.

Yeah, it's a fool's game to wait for potential future releases in today's market. If you want a physical copy, buy it.

It's not a slap on the face if they later put out a version with additional extras. Just don't buy it. You probably aren't missing much.

But the fact that it's getting these options and LD isn't suggests it's actually more attractive to the "core Blu-ray buying demographic"!

Ignoring all canon after the end of Lower Decks s5.

What if…

Spoiled in case you have not seen the last episode of LD yet.

Captain Worf brings the Enterprise-E to the rift, buts it’s too late, the Cerritos has stabilised it into a quantum rift to alternative realities. He tells Admiral Picard who remembers Q’s last words to him

"That is the exploration that awaits you; not mapping stars and studying nebulae, but charting the unknown possibilities of existence."

Picard realises this is what Q is on about and petitions Starfleet HQ for command of the exploration of the rift. Command were considering Carol Freeman and her husband Admiral ALonzo Freeman, however a person as exceptional as Picard wanting it?

Picard is warned he will have to take base from Starbase 80, which nearly prevents him, but he asks for ships to explore the rift and is given a Nebula class called Io, and command of a small fleet of support ships to go with it.

Several of the crew are tempted to move with Picard, but in the end only Worf does due to his own multiverse experiences, and La Forge becomes Captain.

Both S5 and the complete series are up for pre-order on Amazon. No release date though.

Interesting enough, the listing for the complete series lists it as a Steelbook. But that could just be a listing error.

Ooh, that looks really nice! I only ever got the first season on blu-ray, so that complete series box seems almost perfect for me. The art card is a cool idea, but surely those signatures on there are only going to be printed, aren’t they? What’s a bit of a bummer as well is that the complete set (obviously) doesn’t come with the artwork from the original blu-ray sets, which were always really nice.

Ah, so it's a slipcase with two Steelbooks. Looks very nice, but I'll just get the regular Blu-ray to complete my collection.

Looks like the release date of the artbook has been pushed back one month to August. Hope there won’t be further delays.
Getting flashbacks to the series of delays that pushed the Making of Star Trek II book back a year...

Are information available how successful LD was? And why it was cancelled? I loved it, loved the characters, the fast pacing, the expressive animation and most of the humor. Given how successful and long-running Rick & Morty is I had hoped that LD could be a similar success.

After 5 seasons shows become more expensive.
