Spoilers ST Lower Decks - Starships & Technology Season 5 Discussion

Hm? No it didn't. The displays all had the Cali-Style Freedom Class on it and there were no terran symbols in the room.

Are you referring to all the yellow in the room? They changed into a Freedom Class twice, the second time added a bunch of yellow to the exterior and interior, that's what you were seeing. The scene right before it in the Hallway with Tendi, Rutherford and T'Tyn also had a bunch of yellow.
Oh, I see now. You know, if you color it gold and skew it severely because it's on the floor on the far end of the room, the circle-in-the-delta Cetacean Ops emblem looks lot like a circle-in-a-sword-or-delta Terran Empire emblem.

They don’t. But OTOH a refit Freedom could easily have been made at some point and kept the same class designation.

And hey, the Enterprise-E cameo here confirms that the ship had been refit back to its pre-Nemesis configuration. I’m sure it was a simple reuse of the Wayfarer model from a while back but without the extra bits and reformed neck portion and pylons. This puts things in line with the ship’s eventual (though still questionable) appearance(s) in Prodigy a while from now.

Where do we see her from an angle that shows if it's the refit or not? We only get a front/side angle. It also lacks the front transporter emitters though.

Around 26:15 there's a quick pan over the Enterprise that shows a lack of pylon-mounted phaser strips, the extra photon launcher above the docking area on Deck 3 aft of the bridge, and the aforenoted lack of forward transporter arrays. The extra forward torpedo launchers on the dorsal saucer also seem to be absent. However, the nacelle placement does look somewhat higher, but that could easily be just the angle of the camera relative to the model. My FC-era plastic Sovereign model looks flatter than this when I hold it at a similar angle, though...

In my head canon for the 26th century, once the Xindi fully join, Cetaceans will have a pure "Cetacean Designed / Optimized" StarShip, just for all Cetaceans and other aquatic animals to operate StarShips in with small amount of room for us BiPaBs {Bi-(Pedal & Brachial)oids} to visit.

The need for Cetaceans to help navigate StarShips won't be necessary for the average StarFleet, but the ability for our fellow sentient & sapient Cetaceans to all co-mingle and travel the Stars will still be around.

They'll finally have their own uniquely designed StarFleet StarShips that are a evolution of the Xindi Aquatic Cruiser StarShip.

For those who love swiming with cetaceans, there will be entire StarShips to do that.

...Indeed. I'm sure the Ents will have their own flying rain forest in no time.

<SFX: Forced bridge crew laughter>

I peeked back at the appearance of the (non-real) USS Wayfarer and she also lacked the forward transporter arrays, so I guess we know what model they used (albeit lit in a less JJ-Verse way).

You did see the Donut Shaped Open Glass Dome Rain Forest StarShip in DISCO when they jumped to the future, right, right?

Yup!

Do we know the names of the ships present at the installation of Starbase 80?
We got the Cerritos and Enterprise-E. The Anaximander arrives.
Relga's fleet is new because her previous ships were destroyed in the battle.
There're two more Californias present, one bringing in SB80.
Is the Luna-class ship the Titan-nil?
Is the Parliament-class ship the Vancouver?

I could read the Luna’s registry on my tv screen. It’s the Titan. I’m assuming the Parliament is also the Vancouver, since it’s probably the same animation model.

How about those really dodgy MSDs of the Defiant-class with way too many decks and the Miranda, with 4 decks in the saucer making her JJverse-sized?

This is the post-Nemesis refit, we have no frame of reference for what it *should* be. Although the Sovereigns we saw in Prodigy didn’t have the Nemesis adornments either.

No issue, it’s a multiverse thing.

Did you ever watch that episode closely? There are twin coil halves and twin bussard intakes, the latter of which can be clearly seen from all external front views of the ship.

What’s with all the authoritatively snide righteous-indignation posts from you lately? We can all easily discuss things like adults without sounding condescending.

The whole 'nacelles must be in pairs' nonsense was because Roddenberry wanted to invalidate Franz Joseph's tech manual for money reasons. Michael Okuda, probably knowing nothing of this, went with Gene's stance and declared that the reason why you can have Galaxy class nacelles as singles as well as pairs is because each nacelle contains two warp coils (effectively making it a 'pair' even if a ship has one or three nacelles), and the model of the inside of a GCS nacelle showed dual coils for this very reason.

All of this is, of course, nonsense. Because the number of coils inside a warp nacelle should have nothing to do with how many nacelles a ship has.

Yes! Which is why the bridge laughter was forced, as it was on the Discovery bridge when Tilly blurted out the same. :)

...And whaddya know, the E-E in LDS does have a bump atop Deck 3 Aft where the Nemesis launcher should be. It's not the obvious pimple that the launcher is, but it's absolutely not the smooth FC upper deck that was first there. Artistic license aside, what could we be looking at, if we insisted it was a thing? removed launcher but remaining superstructure? Retractable launcher?

They converted the Shuttle Bay Traffic Control Room into a small Torpedo Launcher room.

Why they thought that was a good place to do that?
::shrugs::

I wouldn't want all my torpedoes mounted right above my shuttle bay.

For all the gripes about the Cali-class & USS Cerritos, I really do find the placement of their thin strip Torpedo Tube Launch room to be inspired.

It's simple, elegant, and doesn't eat up that much volume.

Imagine if they used those designs, but mounted it on the Ventral side of the Sovereign Saucer, facing aft.

That'd be a "Much Smoother" & "Sleeker" way of adding Aft Torpedo Launchers IMO.

Well, a century beforehand someone thought it'd be neat to put all the torpedoes and launchers in a plainly visible and targetable pod atop the ship, and THAT design lasted a good century. :)

And that space on the Sovereign seems wierd anyway. I'm not sure it's the shuttlebay control room, which SHOULD be the little cabin above the shuttlebay itself. Indeed, there's some pre-production artwork somewhere that shows it as a room with windows looking outword, and then the crew there can swivel around and see the traffic inside the main bay as well.

The little space where the Nemesis launchers was placed seems to be a sort of docking deck, with three docking ports where travel pods or something could hook up. That seems to be an odd placement, since we don't SEE any shuttle-sized craft with the TMP-era docking collars. Those ports could perhaps be used to welcome alien ships a la ENT et al, or be built for starbase use, with really, really long docking bridges like we see in various other shows.
