Hey, I never noticed that before....

‘Where No Man Has Gone Before’

All these years of watching TOS and I never noticed the Earth symbol on Gary Mitchell’s coffee cup.

You didn't have the fotonovel?

Balance of Terror

When the Romulan nuclear bomb explodes, Kirk and Uhura fall in the opposite direction of other crew members. Uhura actually runs ‘uphill’ while flailing her arms above her head, and the Starfleet chairs remain upright despite the massive tilt of the ship.

Yes, I do laugh at Uhura's movement 🤣. I think she does it in other episodes.

It's pretty odd that they had Kirk and Uhura go the wrong way.

More an opinion than observation, but I'm not gunna create a thread for one thought...

Watched Conscience of the King a few days ago.

I've always thought that when Lenore says:

"It will become a floating tomb, drifting through space with the soul of the great Karidian giving performances at every star he touches."

that "Kodos" would be equally if not more fitting at this stage in the episode.

Clearly Lenore has flipped at this point, and she already believes her father didn't do anything wrong.

Plus, the theatrical nature of the episode - Kodos as a sort of tragic Macbeth, Karidian referring to a part he once played, Kirk referring to the 'play' being over for twenty years, and Lenore seeing her father/Kodos as Shakespearean/tragic.

It works perfectly as is, but I think reverting to his true name, would have been the added icing on the cake.

My opinion, of course :)

That would be chilling, for her to openly adore him in his identity as a mass murderer, instead of just Dad.

Incidentally, I don't think Kodos was literally his true name. I think he was a charismatic revolutionary who hid behind the nom de guerre of Kodos to protect himself. After getting away, he switched to his next fake name, Anton Karidian, and Lenore was born shortly after that.

With Lenore, I feel that her emotional balance, i.e. sanity, is always an issue with her. She's probably an undiagnosed sociopath or psychopath. Her "coping mechanism" was always acting; not just while on stage, but in her entire life on and off the stage. Her constant "anchor" is her singular admiration of her father who she imagines is the greatest man in the universe. I got the feeling that she only discovered her father's real identity in the last year or so, which broke her delicate sanity (because TV psychology). There's no back story given, but she may have encounter one the witnesses who questioned her father's true identity, hence she concludes that the only way to protect her father is to kill all the surviving witnesses.

Arena…

During the bombardment scenes on Cestus III, a stunt double fills in for Shatner…

Ah, the utterly amazing Cestus III sequence. I figure that the stunt double was called in for Shatner because of that mind-blowingly awesome flip/jump/propulsion into the crater, after which Kirk immediately resumes (complete with perfect communicator chirp) his conversation with Sulu. I still can't believe they got that on film. By contrast, Nimoy (who couldn't really run IIRC) does a far less superheroic, but still very cool, amble.

Seeing nits to pick where they may not be, but whatever;

It looks more like almost everyone is trying to go in some general direction backwards rather than left/right. But that implies a level of careful script detail that probably wasn't even on the script itself(somebody far better learned may very well correct me if they established the actual position of the nuke in relation to the E in said script). In general, I would say this is a typical 'action' shot that is done relatively fast and dirty in order to try and keep to schedule- helped that it was only one exact shot with no cuts. As for everyone involved, they were probably told to make it 'look good' if they got any direction at all. Mostly they exaggerate diving and try to get their bodies on camera as much as possible. 'Cept Uhura- I'm pretty sure she never had to take a hard dive on the set and that little stagger-walk of hers sure shows she wasn't up for it.

Is there a tutorial somewhere regarding image linking on the new board software? The first time I went to do it, being careful not to hotlink, it looked wrong compared to what everyone else apparently does. IOW, I'm clueless as usual.;) Thx, Digits.
