Spoilers The Roddenberry Archive brings every iteration of Star Trek’s USS Enterprise bridge to life

However, if a follow up to Picard were to happen and they showed us a younger JL in a flashback, then I'm sure Stewart would happily lend his likeness for that scene.
Nemesis was a very weak movie and not much could've improved it without extensive rewrites, but one of the few improvements that could be made to the movie now without extensive rewrites is CGI'ng young Patrick over Tom Hardy (and maybe even putting a younger sounding Patrick's voice into Shinzon also since his voice is so distinctive).

No.

God No.

Nemesis isn't worth the trouble. Tom Hardy is a fine actor and did his best with the substandard material he was given.

The story and the way it was told was shit. Changing superficial visuals using CG won't improve the ridiculously flawed plot and whole swaths of out-of-character dialog.

I would say leave sleeping dogs lie, but I think I'd rather take that diseased dog out to the woodshed and put it out of its misery.

Going by what I heard about Shatner's attempt to get Star Trek 5 a Director's cut with improved special effects, Paramount probably told him something similar to what you just wrote.

Yep. If the final cut of TFF had been closer to Shatner's original vision - the one that could be read about in the novelization - it might have had a chance at some polishing. Sadly, however, too many compromises were forced and they just couldn't make it work.

Luckinbill was awesome, IMO, and the friendship chemistry in that film between Kirk, Spock and McCoy was unparalleled, before or since, in any of the TOS movies since... well... TOS. Aside from that, it is also better left as a cinematic curiosity - more entertaining to think about what could have been than what actually was.

The saving grace of that film was we got to see the trinity doing what they do and being solidly friends.

All three of them sold me on the fact these men were growing older and had spent that lifetime together both in frenzied action, and in small moments of just... sitting by a fire.

Yep. You can put a tuxedo on a pig, but it's still a pig.

I've never understood what a director's cut would be anyway.

There's no deleted scenes to speak of. The narrative is there, the story is complete. The damage was done back in 1988/89 and it's too late to fix it.

Basically it sounds like he wanted to replace the poorer Bran Ferran effects and maybe replace the Godhead and light beams with CGI rock monsters.

I don't mind that in principle, I just don't think it would have really improved the movie at all. I can understand why Paramount passed on the opportunity.

IIRC, there were some test scenes of the cringe-inducing "rock creatures" with glowy eyes or something and possibly one extended/test scene of the "god head" VFX chasing Kirk but, yeah, not much there.

It's probably because Shatner doesn't quite understand that the VFX wasn't the movie's problem.

Let's not forget Leonard Nimoy doing a high-pitched voice and trying to be Child Spock in a weird flashback scene where he begs Sybok not to leave home.

I've never heard of this before. Is this a thing?

Yeah, it was included on the special edition DVD released back in 2003. IIRC, the scene itself is in the novelization or comic book adaptation.

Oh, ok. I was under the impression that the scene had younger actors playing Spock and Sybok and it was an actual flashback to when they were younger. I can see why it was cut.

They basically took the whole concept of that scene and redid it for DISCO but with young Spock not wanting Michael Burnham to run away. Except they used child actors instead of adults.

Anyway, the problems of TFF are too baked in the script to fix. The only way to possibly fix the movie is if you go back in time when the script was still being developed. Get Shatner a different writer to collaborate with that does a better job of fleshing out the story Shatner wants to tell, then perhaps pick out an f/x company that could probably deliver more than just a live light show with smoke and mirrors.

More importantly, somehow give Shatner a backbone. One of the unfortunate aspects of him as a director was that he conceded too much to what the studio demanded, like making it humorous like TVH and adding Klingon antagonists. Stick to the story and tone you were originally going for.

Even as a kid I couldn't get past the Enterprise warping away and avoiding the Klingon torpedo. Looked like a toy some guy had, and they added whoosh effects.

Saying that, I think Sha Ka Ree looks great when the ship is in orbit.

I'd absolutely buy STV with new effects, but they'd have to replicate the 80s ILM feel in my opinion.
