You see, I understand this. My point is, the design aesthetic is original, so not derived from anything NuTrek. Any similarities to that is purely coincidental. Designs like the Hood or Repulse even predate Discovery and Radiant comes from that same lineage. Pointy bustard collectors seem to a running theme with the designs too, and in many ways, it's more of a stylised TOS. My kind of update, in other words.

Starfleet was still pumping out Miranda class ships at the same time the Ambassador class was developed. They apparently don’t bin old designs that can still do the job.

There's been a long-held idea, going back as far as when TNG was still on the air, that the reason why the Miranda-class, the Excelsior-class and even the Oberth-class were still around well into the 24th-Century was due to them being proven workhorses with onboard systems that could be easily upgraded to keep up with newer designs (that possibly extended to the Constellation-class as well).

Although we know the real-world (budgetary) reasons why those designs were still being used in TNG, we really didn't see an explosion of new 24th-Century designs until well into the series and into later shows & movies. Maybe "in-universe," Starfleet shipbuilding policy wasn't to crank out new designs like PEZ candy until TNG.

Yes, his skills are astonishing! Definitely one of the highlights of Picard was seeing him brought into the canon fold. The Intrepid is a gorgeous design.

In fact we could allege that the Radiant-class is an active repudiation of the DIS/SNW aesthetic, given that there's a DIS-era quad-nacelle design that they decided to not use for a Stargazer precursor in the Cardenas-class.

(Possibly because it would have looked more advanced than the Constellation-class that replaced it, granted.)

Also the Radiant was designed for Picard, it's not an existing design he had and reused, though clearly uses his design style.

The lower saucer/Deflector dish area also seems similar to that of the Farragut. Her torpedo tube's are pretty much exactly like those of the Enterprise, plus she has ball turrets, similar to those from SNW.

The NX-01 also had the same torpedo tube design.

The Radiant was designed over a year before the SNW Season 1 finale even aired, so Bill would not have seen the Farragut.

This is reminding me how much I don't like it when ships are just a remix of the Constitution class. The Miranda got away with it by being awesome, but post Star Trek II stories have shown that it's possible to make ships look of the same era and the same faction without being literally the same shapes.

Considering that this is how Bill Krause envisioned how the interior looked, I'd say it's safe to say he definitely had taken Strange New Worlds into consideration when he built his latest version of the thing, at least in some regard.

I've never had a problem with the interiors of the SNW Enterprise. I think they look spectacular, even if they look more advanced than any other Trek show previously. It was how the exterior of the ships looked that I didn't care for.

Considering that this is how Bill Krause envisioned how the interior looked, I'd say it's safe to say he definitely had taken Strange New Worlds into consideration when he built his latest version of the thing, at least in some regard.

He puts the effort in, that's for sure. It's quite a good pitch if they're ever looking for new designs.

Pundus just tweeted that Virtuos Games contributors to Star Trek Online have updated the old Aurora class to have Sagan-style nacelles as part of a model revamp. This seems like a ripe opportunity if Star Trek: Legacy comes to fruition.

Speaking of Star Trek Online, the ship class that includes the SS Eleos XII is coming to the game and has been given an official class designation: Eleos class. For the sake of game mechanics, it is the Eleos-class intel scout vessel.

Personally, I think it works as the name "Eleos XII" indicates this ship was part of a series. I was expecting it to be the Phoenix class, based on STO concept art from the beginning of the century. We got to wait and see what Fanhome class this class, if anything at all, in its upcoming issue of the die-cast collection.

Either would make sense.

Both explanations were applied at different times to the Tantive IV over on the Star Wars side of the fence. I think they finally settled on "series of ships" with the Blockade Runner from Episode III being the Tantive III (which was also the third name it was assigned in the lore).

Yeah, if CBS/Paramount doesn't give them a class name they normally use the primary example of that class.

They have asked for permission to change class names in the past, like they call the 32nd Century Intrepid/Constitution classes Janeway/Kirk.

They did that because they have so many different Connie and intrepid variants already, and these ones can't kitbash with those other variants, so they didn't want to confuse people.

They have given unique names to canon ships without one though, Oh's command ship from Picard Season 1 was named by STO.

Since there is an Elios XII, it's probably a fair bet there are at least 11 other Elios's flying around out there. Also naming the class ship (in this case) Elios or Elios I would make sense. In all other scenarios that have occurred in the past, I find it to be kind of lazy and contrived. Looking at you, Centaur class, despite how much I love the design.

Based on the registry numbers of the Curry (NCC-42254), the Raging Queen (NCC-42264), and the Centaur (NCC-42043), I surmised that at least some of those ships might have been Mediterranean class or Istanbul class.
