I feel like we're missing some sort of important information as to why the Enterprise must destroy that planet. Kind of like those out-of-context "Superman is a dick" images from Silver Age comics. 
The planet's sending nasty spores into space that could travel for hundreds of years and infect other worlds, transforming all animal life into vicious plants. They even got into the ship and turned their guinea pigs into tree monsters!
But surely not… not… Planet Kelly Green!!

It is. Issue 1 also introduces my fave Gold Key-ism, where they turned Rand's hairstyle into a red hat.

Technically, but I’ve always felt that without the Hellguard background she’s basically just another Vulcan; so for me, half-Romulan she is.
We're discussing a short where the makers explicitly say they consider several novels and comics canon to their shorts.
She swears, she's super pissed, she cries. She's either just a terrible Vulcan or there is something else going on.
She was still written that way and the actress played her that way.
^This. Even though the line may have been cut from the film, it totally informs Kirstie Alley's performance. Otherwise, how she played Saavik makes no sense.
