Tiny Trek Adventures (ongoing comic)

Only when something bad was about to happen :P

Too true

How useful are optical sensors given the ranges being in tens, hundreds or even thousands of kilometers to the target?? The enemy ship would be a tiny speck against a dark sky filled with bright specks of distant stars.

Also a fair point

Apparently very useful? In "Balance of Terror" you hear the crew lamenting that they had no visual target and the motion sensors only provided a rough idea of where the target was. Of course this is based on TOS having "visual" sensors capable of FTL tracking of objects hundreds of thousands of kilometers or more away.

hmmm...

I assume they just call it visual and the real input is just translated sensor data, kinda what James Web is doing, it's not an optical telescope but pure infrared but it's images are translated back to frequencies that humans can see.

As for the story so far, really good and again your work is so very good, placement of characters, the gestures, bodylanguage etc are spot on and enhance the storytelling, well done. :mallory: :techman:

ahh there we go. New headcanon accepted. And thank you!

Hey @ashleytinger , have you updated your DA Gallery?
Awesome work as usual :D

Thank you! I haven't been adding much beyond Tiny Trek's pages to my DA Gallery since I've been pretty consumed by work and just haven't felt all that creative lately. I am working on some sets that I haven't shown off... Nova Class bridge, Voyager Corridors, Enterprise B era corridors and sets based off the concept art and actual sets we got in Generations (for another Trek story I have written but need the sets), a revamp of the Tiny Trek sets (I've been toying with a complete overhaul but the look isn't working for me so it'll probably be more like a cleanup and the overhaul will be a refit way down the line) and a bunch of Star Wars concepts I'm sort of half assembling along with my dark fantasy and non-trek scifi stories. I will be absolutely prolific when I'm retired I tell you what...

in ST IV when the whales get found, kirk has them 'put on screen', and Dr. Taylor asks "wait how can you do that" because the whales were still 600 miles away at the time. despite that the image was of the Whales from a couple thousand feet away. it's pretty clear that a ship's viewscreen is just a highly advanced synthetic image system drawing on lots of different sensor data.

I'm working on finishing the Voyager turbolift to attach to my Nova bridge. I'll be able to share renders of that and the Excelsior-class bridge here soon probably in a different art thread than my old one since it's definitely not its own timeline anymore. I might share WIP of the Excelsior Generations era sets. The sickbay is pretty far along and the corridors but the Transporter room, quarters, and mess/rec area are skeletons more or less. I have not designed out or even started an engineering room or anything else on it yet.

"Visual" being interpreted sensor data explains how Spock could get an interior view of the Bird-of-Prey without the Romulans knowing the Enterprise was looking at them.

Is it too late to suggest tractoring one of the nearby asteroids to put it between the Aries and incoming Target 1 to buy some time to beam out the crew on the Queenstown? :)

Shameless self-plug, but I did something like that in "So Clever" (link below).

Tractor TWO asteroids and then wait for one of those ships to come inbetween them and then slam them together!! MWUAHAHAHAH HA HA... no? :p;)

the Enterprise actually does this in the 5th Duane Duane Rihannsu novel. they're fighting a bunch of romulan cruisers (due to getting caught in the center of a romulan civil war) and their warp engines are damaged, so they're having to do high speed battle through a dense asteroid belt in order to avoid being ganged up on. (with the aid of some local romulan dissidents) at one point they lured a romulan D7 type into a stern chase between two asteroids, then tractor them together as they pass to crush the enemy ship.
