Yes, the re-infliction of a Trump regime on steroids is going to be the thanks we get, I fear.

So, on a lighter note, I was at Timmies today and saw that they have a double-chocolate brownie. I'm not usually a big fan of brownies, but I decided to try it. Wow, I'm glad I did. Best brownie ever! It's very dense, very chocolatey, with chocolate chunks baked in, and it's not overly sweet. It was also very moist and not dry. I recommend it.

I seem to be one-note lately, as I'm already returning to the Tim Hortons well. In this case, it's the Holiday Smile Cookie. I find them way too sweet this year! I feel like there's a trend where things are made much sweeter than they need to be. That's how it feels here. It almost feels achingly sweet, like they dumped a ton of sugar into the recipe. Yeah, sure, it's a sugar cookie, and I hate to dump on it given that proceeds go to charity, but I don't feel compelled to get any more than the one I had because they're so sweet. The sprinkles themselves seem to be heavily sweetened and flavoured which only adds to the saccharine impression. So very not impressed with these. :(

I think it was last year they started doing the Holiday Smile cookies, but our local Timmies never got the special ones and just used regular Chocolate Chunk cookies and put smiles on them, and I actually prefer those over these more colourful ones. I'd take those any day over the new Holiday Smile Cookies.

anyone else noticed the lack of talk from the tories about back to work legislation for the canada post and the dock workers in B.C?

guess they're too busy tying up the parliament in trying to get some non-redecated documents handed to the RCMP even though they would be of no use to take matter further because of the rules of evidence.

So, I made a visit to Tim Hortons this weekend, and I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on pretty much everything!

I was actually quite impressed with the Holiday Smile Cookies. They were nice and moist, and seemed to be more flavourful than last year. I didn't find them overly sweet at all. (To be fair, I do have quite the sweet tooth, so it's possible we have different expectations there.) Overall, I enjoyed them a great deal.

The brownies, on the other hand... ugh. I found them to be dry and cake-y. They were not as chocolatey as I was expecting, and didn't really appreciate their flavour at all. It's possible that the one I had was from a bad batch, or had sat too long before I got it, but I was not impressed. I've made homemade ones that were way better, but I've even had store-bought ones from other places that were better than this. To be honest, your description of them as "best brownie ever" kind of boggles my mind a little. Although you mention that you're not usually a big fan of brownies, and I totally am... so we may have different expectations here, too. :)

I may have to see if I can get another one at another time to try, just to make sure this wasn't just a bad one, and I'm judging them unfairly. If I do get another one at some point, I'll report back here.

Yeah, different expectations and palettes, and all that. I almost didn't finish the Holiday Smile Cookie. Overall, I don't like overly sweet things, which only changes more as I get older. It was the same way when they had sugar cookies several years ago, which they had stuffed with sugar icing on the inside. Just too much of a good thing, you know? I guess I just don't like their take on sugar cookies, which I traditionally think of as shortbread or icebox cookies with sugar sprinkled on top. Nothing too extreme. Don't mess with perfection.

I liked the brownie because it was fairly big and dense for what it was, which made for a filling snack. And yeah, I think you might have gotten a dry one. Funny that you say cakey, as that was totally not my impression about them. But I feel it's partly my fault as I probably built them up too much  Personally I'd pick the brownie over the smile cookie.

OK, I have to admit, this number is a lot bigger than I would have expected it to be:

Poll suggests 13% of Canadians think Canada should become the 51st American state

Although I guess it's not surprising that the support for this would be a lot higher among Conservative supporters, since the US is generally more conservative than us. But overall I still find the results surprising.

For a slightly more irreverent look, let's check in with The Beaverton:

Canadians who support the U.S. annexing us explain why

In other news, the government is finally making moves to order the Canada Post workers back to work.

Oh, and apparently Jordan Peterson has moved to the US. Good. They can keep him.

why am I not suprirsed that most of those in favour come from Alberta and Saskatchewan.

While I can see that pay and conditions are factor, I can't support the push to have those employed to do Saturday parcel deliveries take on a full time employees - that's just a grab from for more members from the union.
There should also be a requirement that the parcels should must delivered unless there's a good reason. None of the bullshit we have the moment where more often than not packages are carded rather than making a delivery attempt (as the packages are usually picked up from the retail outlets e.g Shoppers, the staff there tend to take the brunt of customer anger, not the unionised Canada post workers.

I wonder how many people know that for rural route deliveries Canada Post pays both the person designated as the mail carrier and for some some-one to drive them.

my mother-in-law was was post mistress for a country post office and it irked her that while she had all the extra responsibliies, the mail carriers got paid almost as much as she was.

the delivery process has also struck me as inefficienct. For starters it would be quicker and after for the mail carriers if the requirement was for people to have their mailbox at tend of the drive next to the sidewalk rather than walking up to the front door. Have this in Australia and the posties go around on e-bikes (used to be scooters) so don't need as many people to deliver it and get it done quicker.

Not sure how it would go with mail carrirers on e-bikes in the winter.

though Australia Post also cut delivery back to 3 days a week because of the money it was losing.

though he would have been right at home in Alberta with all the anti-trans laws the ucp has introduced.

I'm in one of the "newer" neighbourhoods, so we don't get door-to-door delivery at all. The truck drives up to the community mailbox, puts all the mail in the corresponding boxes, then drives on to the next community mailbox. My understanding was that the original plan was to roll that out everywhere, but it it was cancelled due to the backlash. And I do totally get the argument that it would have been an issue for seniors and people with disabilities or other mobility issues. But I can also see that it probably would have made things easier for the posties and saved Canada Post a lot of money.

Agreed there. It's absolute bullshit, the excuses I've heard for them not even attempting a proper delivery. I've caught them with the card pre-written, and I asked point-blank, "Were you just going to put that in my mailbox even though I saw you walk right past the intercom so you didn't even try to contact me to let me know you have a parcel for me?" (fortunately I was in the lobby at the right time to catch the driver)

He hemmed, hawed, and mumbled something, and went back out to get my parcel for me. He was not happy, and I really don't care. This is one hell of a racket they have going, getting paid to drive boxes around for 8 hours and then dump them in a corner of some neighborhood pharmacy even though in many instances the recipient was home and waiting for them.

You realize that there are seniors and physically disabled people who can't go out to the sidewalk and get the mail, right? And that it's a great way to make it even easier for thieves?

The only time when we had a mailbox at the end of the drive was when we lived on an acreage. I was a young child at the time, though, and getting the mail was fun for me - the driver usually kept some of those mini Cadbury chocolate bars in his car, the kind that used to be included in a tin of cocoa. The driver would give me the mail (or take the mail if we were sending something) and a chocolate, and sometimes my mother would bake him a batch of cookies in return.

I honestly had no idea anybody down here supported annexing Canada (or even that "North American Union" crap), but I can't say I'm surprised that Trump backs it. :sigh:

FWIW, I don't. ;)

Thought this video was really well done and inspiring. And FWIW, they do realize they made a mistake in referring to us a Melting pot rather than a Mosaic and they ackowledge this in the comments to the video.

They're confused as to how many federal political parties we have. There are 5, not 3. So I guess it's safe to assume they've never voted Green.

And... wow. Freeland resigned from cabinet. Gotta wonder what happened there, and just what she really thought of that $250 cheque scheme that Trudeau thinks should go to people who don't really need it (sorry, but anyone making $150k doesn't need this, whereas people in my situation - low income disabled - are completely shut out - AGAIN).

Thinking back over the past 40-odd years, the usual thing that happens when a Liberal finance minister resigns well into the mandate, it means they want to be free to campaign to oust the current leader and that they expect to win the subsequent leadership race.

She's left it too late, I think. Nothing is going to save the Liberals now. All we can hope is that the Reformacons get rid of PP before the government falls, if they realize that PP is no more suitable to represent Canada on the international stage than he is to represent their own party within Canada.

We've considered you an honorary Canadian for a long time, now. :)

But this thing about the Americans taking over the continent? That's been one of the goals for a very long time. It's just that most of your presidents don't push it. Trump is pushing it, and it's stirring up more Canadian patriotism than we usually have, outside of Remembrance Day.

The difference here is that if he really wanted to do it... well, part of the border is literally marked with flower pots. They wouldn't stop a tank.
