Missing 32" Enterprise finally found...

Whole story is now up at Trek world.
Dear sir,

Am looking for missing bric-a-brac in the form of an ebony bust of a member of the genus Corvus, formerly in the possession of the late General Kemidov and recovered at hazard by a woman released from prison (“medical discharge”) by the name of Brigid O’Shaughnessy who tried to sell a faux version of it to my great grandfather, K. Gutman.

Seeing your outstanding work on the 3 footer (and the unreliable nature of the previous gumshoe), I am prepared to pay you the sum of $25,000 for the recovery of the objet d’art from the woman described above.

P.S. Wear body armor.

That is likely the case—AMT nacelles tend to “crowd” the saucer..mounted a tad too far forward perhaps…just eyeballing it.

I've always thought there was something fishy about Roddenberry's "I forgot who I gave it to" line. Admittedly, he was an addict and an alcoholic at the time, but this seems like an odd piece of data to just forget.

I can see it. You're a busy man, you get things done by trusting and delegating, then some time goes by. I can see forgetting all kinds of details, and that goes double if your mind gets foggy now and then. GR had a love affair with pot before he ever tried cocaine.

FactTrek's article revealing what really happened to the 32" model is now up:

It's fascinating to learn what the model was loaned out for, although the ultimate purpose of the thing it was used to create was kind of petty and it's a shame it was lost for decades as a result of it. But at least now we basically know how it got from Roddenberry's desk to that storage locker.

VERY interesting reading!!!

When I read they took it to make a hologram, I was thinking it must have been with the intent of creating some kind of computer display for the bridge or engineering, like how Logan's Run used the technique. But it turns out it was just for a party decoration? For that, the miniature was lost for decades?

The hologram is across town from me? Dude!

Id love a lawyer to weigh in. From my position of ignorance, it seems with this information that the ownership still resided with Roddenberry. Hence the reason the auction house had no choice but to return “stolen” merchandise. Not unlike a lot of art stolen by the Nazis during ww2. Wonder if the folks who bought the storage locker got a “finders” fee

They were supposed to, but the finders changed their mind about signing the paperwork and instead decided to sue the Auction House middle man.

Well that’s weird. Why sue the auction house? The auction house did the legally required due diligence to determine rightful ownership and that they were not dealing in stolen merchandise.
What is their claim against the auction house?
