Today's audiences would walk out if the film didn't have wall-to-wall action. Short attention spans.
Every movie? I don't think they walked out of Oppenheimer.Today's audiences would walk out if the film didn't have wall-to-wall action. Short attention spans.
I think it depends on expectations. Star Trek nowadays needs to equal action, and the Kelvin movies have provided that, along with the live "action" TV shows.Every movie? I don't think they walked out of Oppenheimer.
Star Trek and Hard Sci FI don't mix very well. It's very nature often runs counter to that. And it's definitely not what made Star Trek popular. It doesn't have to be Hard Sci Fi to be intelligent, thoughtful and give a message. Trek managed that with out ever going "Hard".Im all for a more cerebral Denis Villeneuve Hard Sci Fi Trek movie. Trek always was best when entertainment mixed with Hard Sci Fi concepts. Many people forget to understand, that this was the concept which made Star Trek popular in the first place.
Hard Sci Fi movies are rare, but most of the top Sci Fi movies of all time belong to this category (2001, Close Encounters, Metropolis etc). And i firmly believe that intelligent movies can still make money of they are executed well.
With Marvel and Star Wars we already have two big high action sci-fi franchises. Star Trek needs a different approach…
Chris Pine said it best when he said Star Trek shouldn't be aiming for MCU money, but that's unfortunately their target.
It depends on the director of the film.
I think that is the main issue. A TMP story can clearly be done and be well received by Trek fans, as shown by DIS S4.I don't believe that Paramount would hire a modern filmmaker that could pull off something like TMP.
Every movie? I don't think they walked out of Oppenheimer.
While that’s true, I’ve always wished for a Star Trek movie or series that was hard sf. TMP isn’t hard sf, but it’s about the closest they ever got. I’d honestly like to see a Trek story where the astronautic details actually matter, but I don’t expect to see one.Star Trek and Hard Sci FI don't mix very well. Yes. It was described as a action/adventure show in the TOS bible.Actually Star Trek was always much more than an action show.
Especially TNG was often quite intellectual.

Kirk Fu is action. Hand phasers are action. Wresting a guy in a rubber suit is action.TOS was more of an action show...when they had the budget to show the space battles on screen![]()
