Quark is great
Quark is great
I actually agree with the OP.
Quark is a great character. Much more complex that we could have guessed when the series started.
As most Ferengi, he's greedy. But in the same way, he seem to have some moral ethics as well. If it was what he really was or if he was affected by all those years on the station with those "hu-maaans! I don't know.
Just watch the episode Business As Usual where Quark actually screws up a weapons deal because he won't be responsible for genocide.
He also risked his life when the station was occupied by the Dominion and Cardassians by spying for Kira's resistance cell on the station and liberating Rom and the others from being imprisoned in the episode Sacrifice Of Angels.
So I find him a great and very interesting character. One of my absolute favorite Star Trek characters.![]()
And helping Professor Lang and her students in "Profit and Loss". "The winning side would have paid him much better."I love the bit where (after Quark throws away his bat'leth and expects to be killed) Gowron is talking to Quark, and Gowron actually takes a knee so he can speak to Quark face to face. Then Gowron actually helps Quark to his feet.
"A brave Ferengi....who would have thought it possible?"
The simple fact is, Quark IS great. Would any of us have the balls to do what Quark did in that episode? I'm not so sure.
yesI'm sorry, but is there any more to this?
It's great that you like Quark and all, but I'm not sure "Quark is great" is worth its own thread.
I totally agree with your comments about Quark and how Armin Shimerman worked for the development of the character."Move Along Home" set the stage for that, Armin Shimerman made requests that were granted and the legend was born... he did more for the Ferengi in this one episode than what was written for Ferengi in all of TNG - and that's just the beginning. Maybe that's a tad hyperbolic as even a couple of the Ferengi episodes were bad, but the statement and sentiment are not quite untrue either as TNG always treated the Ferengi as hollow caricatures... Armin and DS9 brought in actual depth. It's all another reason how DS9 is so underrated as a series.
The same "Move Along Home" definitely reveals that aspect as well.Really is an underrated episode...
Haven't seen that one in ages, so up next...
I'll second that!
I'd have thought that Dukat would have been the Jack- as in, a Card-assian? If not Winn, of course.
No wonder that Gowron is one of my absolute favorite Star Trek characters.I love the bit where (after Quark throws away his bat'leth and expects to be killed) Gowron is talking to Quark, and Gowron actually takes a knee so he can speak to Quark face to face. Then Gowron actually helps Quark to his feet.

Two of my favourite Quark moments. Thanks!! (“I had kanar..with Damar! Defector or deflector?”Just watch the episode Business As Usual where Quark actually screws up a weapons deal because he won't be responsible for genocide.

Cute.

we are all old people still here about a 30-year-old TV series, how much fresh content do you think is there to talk about
