I actually agree with the OP.
Quark is a great character. Much more complex that we could have guessed when the series started.
As most Ferengi, he's greedy. But in the same way, he seem to have some moral ethics as well. If it was what he really was or if he was affected by all those years on the station with those "hu-maaans! I don't know.
Just watch the episode Business As Usual where Quark actually screws up a weapons deal because he won't be responsible for genocide.
He also risked his life when the station was occupied by the Dominion and Cardassians by spying for Kira's resistance cell on the station and liberating Rom and the others from being imprisoned in the episode Sacrifice Of Angels.
So I find him a great and very interesting character. One of my absolute favorite Star Trek characters.

Yes, I agree, but what is this thread to be about? Us simply agreeing (or disagreeing) that he is great, or to discuss ways in which he is great, or something else?
"Move Along Home" set the stage for that, Armin Shimerman made requests that were granted and the legend was born... he did more for the Ferengi in this one episode than what was written for Ferengi in all of TNG - and that's just the beginning. Maybe that's a tad hyperbolic as even a couple of the Ferengi episodes were bad, but the statement and sentiment are not quite untrue either as TNG always treated the Ferengi as hollow caricatures... Armin and DS9 brought in actual depth. It's all another reason how DS9 is so underrated as a series.
The same "Move Along Home" definitely reveals that aspect as well.

I love the bit where (after Quark throws away his bat'leth and expects to be killed) Gowron is talking to Quark, and Gowron actually takes a knee so he can speak to Quark face to face. Then Gowron helps Quark to his feet.

The simple fact is, Quark IS great. Would any of us have the balls to do what Quark did in that episode? I'm not so sure.

As for the cards, those are my absolute favorites in the Star trek series. A bit odd choices maybe, but I like them.
As for Dukat and Winn, I might include them in some card collection of best villains.

) Also, I was soooo proud and happy when he messed up that arms deal.My personal favourite is still from The Way Of The Warrior when Quark hears the red alert and yells “Now what?!” then launches into a litany of possible culprits as to what’s interrupting the bar. I’m always asking along with him, just how IS a Ferengi supposed to make an honest living around here?

This is a discussion Forum. If you don't think there is anything new to discuss why are you even here? I've been posting here for over 20 years and have yet to see our members exhaust all topics of conversation.
I don't think it's too much to ask for a thread starter to be the first one to make a meaningful post. So let me be clear. If you are going to start a thread, it should have some actual content, otherwise I'm just going to start locking threads.
Armin Shimmerman has said multiple times that he hates his first appearance in TNG. Originally the Ferengi were supposed to be a serious rival of the Federation. However, Shimmerman thought the way it was written was terrible.

No. A moderator's job is to make sure the forum they are responsible for runs smoothly and adheres to the board rules. One of those rules is no spamming. Per the rules, spamming includes "continuously making posts that have no real content". I have been moderating this forum for more than 8 years and can count on one hand the number of times I've had to lock a thread for ignoring this rule.
I think most posters will find I am pretty lenient when it comes to new members reviving long dead threads or creating threads thin on content, which is why this thread is still open. I haven't seen a continuous pattern of posts like this from you, so I was just giving you a heads-up on how things work here, but instead of taking that message to heart you're just arguing and taking little jabs like the one above.
I'll say it one more time. If you are going to start a thread, please include some relevant content. For this one it would have been as simple as providing an example of why you think Quark is great and asking others for their opinion.
Now, I expect this to be the end of this particular discussion. Let's get back to why Quark is great (or not).

IDIC is not just for capitalistic motivations any more.
Quark is a decidingly mixed bag. One, I don't like him. That's a credit to the actor who often times takes the character in unexpected directions. But, he is not an enjoyable character. He short sighted, myopic at times, and treated as caricature at other times.
The episodes that he does stand out in are great because they're a break from the normal wheeling and dealing that grows tiresome. As DS9 characters go, he grew a lot but only because he had so far to climb to actually be an interesting character.
Rather have less of him than more.
