Even before we hit the 40th anniversary, the 50th has been on my mind. It will, after all, be such a momentus occasion. Bigger than anything that's ever come before in the history of entertainment media franchises. One of the many thoughts I've had about things they *should* do for the 50th just occured to me the other day, though.
The 50th anniversary of Trek will also mark the 25th anniversary of Hallmark ornaments of Trek. It occured to me, rather than a FOURTH or FIFTH copy of the NCC-1701 being re-re-re-re-released... why not pay tribute to the man at the top? That great bird of the galaxy, Gene Roddenberry?
I remember around the 35th they where to make a Roddenberry/Kirk combo action figure pack. It had Kirk in his chair, and Gene in a sweater standing behind him. It never made it to production, only prototype. But it gives me the idea that for the 50th, they should do Gene as the big ornament of the year. Have him standing with Kirk on one side, Picard on the other, since he created those Captain's directly. Or maybe holding models of the ships. Something like that.
Sure they could find some voice clips of Gene talking about Trek to include, as well.
A Captain Pike ornament that year would be awesome too, to celebrate the Trek that almost was.
