Did Spock shed a tear for Kirk?

What are your thoughts on this? When Spock heard of his beloved friend's passing, do you think he shed a tear for him? I say shed a tear because I highly doubt he would actually cry, and make all those noises, with a runny nose and all that, that is just not Spock

I'd like to think that he did, and we kno he's fully capable of it since he shed a tear form V'Ger in TMP.

Hmm...good question. I am not sure he would have if he had been younger. Back then he tried very hard to contain his emotions. the older he got the more he was willing to show them...even in the slightest. But I think if he did as you say, "shed a tear," then he did it alone.

I don't think he did. He didn't even cry when his father died.

Well, they were not very close most of his older years, isn't that right? Besides, he had a lot to think about at the time his father died & I might not remember this correctly but he was not alone when he heard the news, was he? Like the previous poster says, I too doubt he would shed a tear when he's among other people.

Well, for what it's worth, he did NOT cry when Kirk died in "Amok Time". So, I think there's your answer. :p

Another good point the other poster mentioned was the age-thing, he seemed more comfortable showing he could feel too.

And at the time he killed Kirk he was f'ed up because of the Pon Farr thing, dealing with that when things cleared up by crying might have been illogical ;) His reaction (a smile!) when he found out Kirk was alive is interesting though...

Had Kirk's death taken Spock by surprise, coming out of nowhere, I think the impact would have been even bigger.

did you not see Naked Time? ;)

^ Whoa, I guess we know your position on whether or not Shatner should be in the new movie.

Yep. I'm sure he did.

If only one tear.

Ah yes, I did. That was not a weird, but powerful scene to see. But we know the reason for why he sobbed, and it didn't happen naturally.

Because I wonder about this? Having him in the new movie if the script allowed it would have been great, but he's not in it and I'm fine with it.

true, but in it we got to know that Spock has *powerful" emotions -- in that case, for and toward his mother. who's to say that when he knows of Kirk's death, there might not be mitigating circumstances under which those powerful emotions -- in this case, for arguably his closest, dearest friend -- might come forth.

I don't think he did. He did learn to embrace his Human and Vulcan heritage, but he chose to live as a Vulcan, not some mix between the two. He may have become very stoic and perhaps excused himself from any company he may have had to contemplate the deep friendship the two shared. He may have even laid in his bed to contemplate as he did in The Undiscovered Country. This deep contemplation, I think, would be a more appropriate response for a man who held his Vulcan heritage above his Human one.

Kirk: You want to know something? Everybody's human.
Spock: I find that remark...insulting.

...Said with the deadpan face Spock always uses when cracking jokes. ;)
