At least they seem to hate them all equally... But it does seem like a concern for democracy. I wonder if they're part of the same group that wanted to create their own citizen's police force during the blockade in Ottawa and wanted to kick Trudeau out and install one of their own. Some crazies out there. We still have people out protesting during the weekends who use the Canadian flag. They all want Trudeau out because 'Freedom!" Whatever for, I don't know, as I feel we have it pretty good in Canada, all things considered.

and something tells those who were happy to have "fuck trudeau" stickers everywhere won't be to receptive if similar sentiments are expressed about poilievre.

Yeah, true. I just don't understand their reasoning. They just seem to complain about everything and won't be happy until they get what they want.

Haven't you heard? We apparently live in a dictatorship, and Trudeau is our despotic overlord.

(Sprinkle liberally with "" as appropriate.)

I see a lot of projective accusation as performative "art" when such people accuse Trudeau, Freeland, Singh, etc. in these ways.

Art? Is that the same as pissing in the wind? Or an electric fence? If that's considered art... we've really let ourselves go.

Another rate cut. Starting to make a material difference on my mortgage when you spread it out to a year.

my in-laws have been trying to sell the property for over 18 months (they moved inr= an apartment). Maybe the drop in interest rates will help after the last rise killed of sales in the area (country).

Most of the asking price would be from the size of the land which is over 100 acres so looking at over $800,000 unless the price has been dropped.

I just had a check in convo with my mom. Apparently the Alberta wildfires are so bad the air quality is the worst it’s ever been. People are advised to wear masks when outside and keep doors and windows shut. I don’t remember it being this horrible in the 21 years I lived there.

I saw in the news that Jasper was half-destroyed yesterday. :(

I hope your mom is doing OK. (And the same wish, of course, to all our members in western Canada.)

That actually reminds me of a video Joseph DeBenedicitis did. I think I might have posted it in this thread before. His schtick is that he usually brings along an American to experience Canadian things.

In one of his videos, he and an American friend go to Ottawa and manage to get their way into Trudeau's office.

This is rather cool. Randy Boissonault represents an Edmonton riding, which is a rare thing for a Liberal.

Perhaps they realize it doesn't look good in the mirror. And there's hope (maybe) that the events that happened brought about a realization of needed change. And by making a statement like this, they're not so much addressing the left, but their own voter base. Kind of like the equivalent to tell their voters to chill out.
Danielle Smith's nicknames include "DanYell" and "Marlaina" (because someone found out that her real first name is Marlaina and not Danielle).

Her actions in this are so incredibly hypocritical, because of her "suggestion" that the Americans should keep the Federal Environment Minister "in their crosshairs".

A less-violent equivalent (a few years ago) was Adriana LaGrange (my MLA and former education minister) running to the Sun Media and whining that the mean, nasty ATA (Alberta Teachers' Association) was BULLYING her! Gosh, she only threatened to fire the entire Calgary public school board out of sheer spite, so why would they ever have a reason to criticize her? (there are so many reasons to criticize this woman that it would take a loooong time to enumerate them all).

Global National reported tonight that 2 men had been arrested and charged for making threads against trudeau.

They were both from Alberta.
Many people from Alberta make threads against Trudeau, at least on FB. (yes, I know you made a typo; it just struck me funny).

It's gotten to the point here in Alberta where the rational people (iow not anyone who supports either the UCP or the convoy) are actually afraid to fly Canadian flags, for fear of being thought of as a convoy supporter.

Oh, and it's not the "Freedom" convoy for anyone but the ones who took part in it. The rest of us refer to it as "the Freedumb convoy" - because not one of the participants has much going on upstairs, intellectually speaking.

Some people have started sporting "F*ck Marlaina" stickers (Danielle Smith goes by her middle name; her first name is actually 'Marlaina').

I saw in the news that Jasper was half-destroyed yesterday. :(

There are actually idiots on Smith's FB page who are carrying on that Justin Trudeau ordered Jasper to be burned so the Liberals can do a "land grab" and turn it into a 15-minute city. These people are insane.

I live far enough from Jasper that I'm in no danger from the fire. The air is smoky and hazy, though. It's causing some breathing problems.

It's been so godawful hot here for the past several weeks. Heat exhaustion was just about happening a couple of days ago.

It's sad and depressing about Jasper. Even though it's been a long time since I was there last, it's still a beautiful part of the world and some of it looks very different now than it did a week ago. It's heartbreaking about the animals that didn't make it.

So many of the trees didn't have as much resistance as they would have if they were healthy and not half-dead from pine beetles. We didn't get anywhere near the snow and cold temperatures we needed over the winter to kill them (the beetles, I mean; it takes a prolonged period of -40C to kill them).

I’m new to caring (somewhat) about politics. Please explain to me (simply) why Trudeau is hated. Is it the Aladdin blackface, transfer of hatred from his father, or just a bunch of conservatives wanting to be conserva-ty?

Also why is the NDP hated so much? When I was younger my mom told me to never vote for them.

It sounds real sad but I cared so little for politics in my 20’s that I voted for whomever my mom told me to which was conservative, despite not aligning with their values.

Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
And more.

You don't mention which province you're from, so in case it isn't Alberta, I'll just mention that in this province anyone voting Conservative probably does so because that's how their parents voted, and their grandparents, and their great-grandparents. It becomes as natural to them as breathing oxygen and they can't imagine voting any other way, even when Conservative platforms won't benefit them, and may actively harm them.

My grandparents were Liberal supporters, and of course they tried to teach me that this was the correct party to support. In my case it wasn't due to my parents' voting habits, because as far as I knew, neither of them voted.

I had an excellent social studies teacher in junior high school (mid-1970s). He didn't think 11-12-year-olds were too young to learn about politics, political parties, elections, following the nightly news, and comparing party platforms to see how well they agreed or disagreed with what we thought was important. So throughout those three years, we followed the political news and even participated in it (the year that the Environment Conservation Authority held public hearings about a proposed dam; that project was so contentious that it became known as "The Damn Dam"). 1976 was the year the Parti Quebecois took power provincially in Quebec and people became concerned about separatism. Funny what a difference nearly half a century makes.

Anyway, I voted as I did partly because of who the party leader was, and partly because of who the local candidate was. When Pierre Trudeau stepped down, I rethought who I might vote for. And when the NDP candidate came doorknocking, I figured, why not invite him in and let him give his pitch and answer a few questions.

I've voted NDP for most of the years I've been old enough to vote. I threw my vote to smaller parties a few times, back when parties received funding based on how many votes they received and I liked what the party stood for but knew they were struggling financially. All told it added up to less than $10, but it's better than nothing.

I have never voted Conservative. Not when they were the Progressive Conservatives, not when they were the Reform Party, the Canadian Alliance, the Conservative Party of Canada, or (provincially) the United Conservative Party. They'll probably split again and regroup again under yet another name, trying to pretend that they're still the PCs with another name.

Also why is the NDP hated so much? When I was younger my mom told me to never vote for them.
People who are anti-NDP usually see communists hiding under the bed and go into panic mode. It's nonsensical hysteria that has no basis in fact.

@Timewalker I’m originally from Winnipeg and spent a few years in Moosejaw. Then moved to Calgary when I was six. Calgary was/is home to me.

I remember one year I voted for NDP because I didn’t pay attention to the name on the ballot and my mom was furious. She went into a rant about how she voted for them in the 80’s because she was a clueless 20-something and her dad was angry the same way she was with me.

Thank you for your lengthy response.

some of it is his father, some of is conservatives just being nasty shits plus there's the 3 term P.M factor (very few heads of government don't stink like last week's fish by that point), his utter inability not to get himself into ethics and that he just rubs some people the wrong way even when they're on the same side of the political isle.

ndp have a very large socialist wing which doesn't appeal to a lot of people (I can't stand the socialists any more than I can stand the hardline conservatives).

<edit>

The Toronto Star published an article on the very subject.

but looking the fingers, most the truduea hate come from the conservatives and in Manitoba/Saskatchewan/Alberta

other figures - 77% weakness as leader, 66% just tired of him (which goes to my point above about being a 3rd term P.M)

59% of people didn't hold him in high esteem because of the budget and 59% failure to deliver on promises.
