The first half had its moments, but I'm a little disappointed so far. As has been the case with the past couple seasons, I enjoy the Johnny/Daniel/Chozen stuff. But the kiddy drama? Ugh... The writing just seems to be a bit all over the place for this season. I hope it gets better for the conclusion.
But I wonder if we're supposed to ignore the "Hideo" on a prop in the first Karate Kid movie or fold it into this new backstory.

So....I watched it and... The first 5 episodes don't really go anywhere. Lot of college talk stuff and everyone is pals again for the most part.
I was surprised where episode 5 ends. I didn't think they'd be getting to the tournament storyline so soon. So assuming the next 5 episodes in November is the tournament then would anyone want to guess the plot for the last 5 episodes?

I mean, there's a fight between Johnny and Chozen that disappointingly doesn't happen. There's a fight between Barnes and Johnny that is way too short with little build up to it and it's pretty much over just like that. Chozen and Barnes disappear for the last episode. Those would have been way bigger events in earlier seasons...

I'm sure that for Americans is different, but I found all the storyline about colleges incredibly boring. They will be accepted in this or that college? Yes? Not? I should feel invested in Hawk not wanting to go to MIT? And why? It's evidently my limit, but I couldn't care less about that.
It's been so long since the show started and since they actually dealt with high school issues and their original personalities that I even forgot Hawk started off as a 'nerdy' guy. I was like "Wait. MIT? The MIT? lol
BTW, the Sekai Taikai location looked pretty underwhelming. I had googled a review and apparently they're using the exactly same school/gym that they filmed the All Valley tournaments in and just put up different dressings on it.
For all these guys talking about how they might be turned into 'world superstars' from this tournament, I thought it would look a lot more interesting.
The thing I was curious about was that all the other teams seemed to have at least six fighters but Cobra Kai only has four? Three before Tori’s surprise reveal. How do they even qualify if they have less people than anyone else?
Well I think that the other two (female) fighters will enter after Tory. The episode just ended before that.

I enjoyed the five episodes but agree that some of the teen drama stuff is wearing thin. They didn't seem to have any ideas for Robbie, he hardly appeared until epsidoe 5.
The stuff where they went to the college was pretty fun and kind of sweet how they ended up friendly with Kyler (whose actor is 33!)
Not sure how they're going to get another 10 episodes out of just the tournament. Maybe the last five there will be some unexpected world-wide karate war breaking out and Miyagi-Do will somehow bring about world peace.
The next 5 will likely be all about that tournament. Then the final 5 will be about closure as the characters prepare to move on in their lives. Kreese will likely get his final punishment at the end of the next 5 and the final 5 will also circle back to being about a conflict between Johnny and Daniel and that finally being resolved.
I think Kreese will screw up so bad the old Grand Master will probably just flat-out kill him for dishonoring their dojang. Calling it now.
I dunno. This dude lifted his own granddaughter up by the neck and held her there for about 30 seconds. Since it's TV, her neck didn't break, but if he's willing to do that to a child of his own blood, I could easily see Kim sweep Kreese aside like some pet dander shed on a carpet without even batting an eye.
I think the other issue though is they will likely want their series regular, rather it be Daniel orJohnny to have a more direct impact in bringing him down. Especially in the case of Johnny. The new Ninja Master character is basically a new character. Where the conflict between Johnny and Kreese goes all the way back to the first movie.
Kim was alluded to in flashbacks in earlier seasons. I think we saw the back of his head with the long white hair, but never his face, to preserve the mystery.
Further, when Silver went to "apologize" to Miyagi in KK3, he mentioned "Kim Sum Yung of South Korea", who is a Grand Master of Tang Soo Do, the post-war precursor to all forms of the more modern Tae Kwon Do, upon which the Cobra Kai style was built.
