I doubt that Andy Lin would be so casual about a red alert. Actually, to be blunt everybody seems to be rather blaise about a Klingon ship ready to attack them -- especially with "weakened shields". They could die, yet they're acting like it's another boring day in space.

Secondly, the scene in Spock's room seems rather odd. They really don't seem to be discussing anything. Lin wants permission to be blunt, yet says nothing. And why would Kirk give someone personal permission to not be at stations in red alert? That doesn't seem to make sense.

I hope it's fake, 'cause if that shit hits the screen, say bye bye to Trek.

Aren't they supposed to pretend it's real? I mean a doctor practicing surgery takes the thing seriously because he knows that he could one day be asked to do the same surgery to save someone's life. I don't think he'd be like "ho hum, another open heart surgery. I think I'll ask that cute cheerleader out."

Bsides, I got the impression based on the Spock's quaters part of the scene that they were in space and that the attack was a surprise.

Yeah... but that would be predictable. Kind of the opposite of the "Holy shit! A Klingon attack!" opening in Wrath of Khan. The audience was supposed to take it seriously in part because A) we hadn't been introduced to the test yet and 2) because the actors took it seriously.

But keep in mind that this is also about JJ Abrams, the guy who likes to mind-fuck audiences with MI:III and Lost. I imagine this guy gets off on pulling the rug out from under viewers. This could simply be the latest example. (If there's any validity to it.)
