What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

People want shorter seasons because it seems like an obvious solution to storylines feeling dragged out. I don't think it really works out that way, however. Personally, I think a 13-15 episode season 5 that was split between the s5 arc and the story we didn't get in s6 could've worked out great.
Exactly! *Funny, isn't it, how Suits is currently one of the most popular streaming series on Netflix yet it is 16 episode season arcs. Apparently the viewing audience is capable of doing more than 10 episodes a season.

And honestly, SNW would do just fine with a 16, or 21 episode season since it is more episodic, unlike DISCO.

You all can argue about TOS and neo-versions of TOS for the rest of your lives. Meanwhile, I'll watch and enjoy the 1960s TV Series and 1980s Film Series when I feel like it.

EDITED TO ADD: Ooops! I meant that for the Head Canon Thread, but it still works just as well here.

We could also ask, can somebody who knows just one song be a fan of the band?
One might say a band (especially if its all or most of the original members) is not represented by one song (unless they were a "one hit wonder"), because their career arc and the music that defined them were constantly changing, but in the case of Star Trek, one can be a "Star Trek fan" only watching / liking one of its entries.

Despite the efforts of decades of dissimilar behind the scenes motives all trying to tie the in-universe narrative together (or re-write it in some cases), ST is not a cohesive "story" that only survives due to some sense of unity. They are merely different production houses with their own agendas, which is evident in a good deal of the content, which makes it easy to pick and choose what one enjoys or disregards, yet they are still a "Star Trek fan".

With ST, there's no absolutist requirement to being a fan. That said, there are some who mirror the kind of argument used by obsessed fans who rant at others for exercising their choice to not consume all parts of a franchise or concept (see: certain factions of MCU fans who argue that you can't be a real MCU fan if you are not watching every release).

None of this is being driven by audience attention span or appetite. It's entirely about budget.
Im sorry. Yes, you are right. It wasn't attention span that was discussed earlier, it was the the grueling demand seasons longer than 10 episodes puts on these overworked actors.

Post in thread 'General Trek Questions and Observations' https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/general-trek-questions-and-observations.284733/post-14804737

Honestly, I agree with you that it's budget.

I can get that, I often split movies over two nights. But it doesn't mean you don't have time for it, it just means it lasts longer.

I had to split Joker into three sessions. :(

Paramount had to carry Sir Patrick Stewart over the finish line to complete Picard!

Back in the pre-streaming Dark Ages of the 80's and nineties, the idea was to get a show to 100 episodes and have it run indefinitely in five-day-a-week second-run syndication.

Now that the second-run syndication market no longer exists, there's no point in producing that many episodes anymore.

Ooof, that was so apparent in Season 3 when almost every scene with Sir Patrick involved a dramatic entrance followed by him immediately sitting down. He was considerably more spry in Season 1&2, they probably should have taken more time off to let him rest before filming Season 3.
