Ok. What is the chance of a Picard spinoff?

Again, it's not "nostalgia=teh sux!" simplistic reductionism.
No, but you guys are making it seem that way with the way you're all beating us over the head with it non-stop. And then citing people who don't even post here. The first time, okay. The second time, okay. The 50th time, getting on my nerves but still okay. The 10 millionth time? Come on. If someone's not interested in Legacy fine. Just move on and let those of us who are looking forward to it look forward to it in peace.

From Day One on this board, 1999, my policy has always been, "let people enjoy their shows." I never badgered people in the VOY or ENT Forums. I didn't hang around the Kelvin Forum once it became clear to me they weren't going to be my thing. You don't see me in the LD Forum. I hardly ever post in the SNW Forum and haven't in months. When I have, I never looked to annoy anyone or beat anyone over the head with anything. I let them enjoy their show.

Agreeing to disagree is a thing.

Yeah I did the thread last year with all the YouTube interviews and don't remember Matalas never not implying Legacy would be on the Titan-A/E-G with Seven etc

You have a point.

Disco leaned on nostalgia with Mudd, Spock, Sarek, Amanda, Pike, Number One and the Enterprise
Lower Decks leans on nostalgia with all of the references
Prodigy leans on nostalgia with the Voyager references amongst other season 2 spoilery things
SNW leans on with the Enterprise, Pike, Spock, Number One, Chapel, M'Benga, Kirk, Scotty, Amanda, add a few other things I'm not thinking as I write this

No question that nostalgia has played a HUGE part in this era of Star Trek. Its HOW it handles it that may not sit well with some while it sits well with others. We all have our preferences.
In regards to preferences, I get it. I could never deny that to anyone.

I'm just trying to think of specific instances where it was handled incorrectly in Picard S3.

Was it the characters? They all appear to have served a purpose, as far as I'm aware. Riker had access to the Titan being the previous captain. Geordi was the administrator of the fleet museum which allowed the use of analogue vessel (ofc it was going to be the Enterprise D). Worf was Raffi's handler. Without Data they couldn't have regained control of the Titan from Vadic. Even Deanna used her Jedi mind trick to put Jack on the right path.

It felt like it all came together in the end, and everything eventually had a purpose.

What I've hoped to see in this long thread is a comment where I go "OH!!!I understand why it didn't work now!!", and then perhaps see why some people fear Legacy (In it's elevator pitch form ofc).

I'm hoping for the same in reverse. Why did it work for others? Like, it was working for me and then it just...stopped. Possibly with the Borg, but I think the Jack reveal was flatter than I wanted, owning in no small part to not feeling the Picard's long lost son bit.

But, for me, I feel like it's the Borg Queen and the threat that she continued to make. I think, in a way, it's how many felt about Data's return but in reverse from Nemesis. Data's death didn't really bother me in Nemesis, but I didn't have that strong connection to the character. But, seeing Picard have that final "neck break/catharsis" in First Contact, only for the Queen to come back was just difficult to parse.

Reasonably it should work. On paper, The Queen and a Rogue Changeling is an interesting mash up, like Chang and Cartwright and Naclus in TUC. But, in execution, flat cat.

Yes, as I said upthread a few posts back.

But you’re suggesting this can only be a conversation about how some are looking forward to it? Shouldn’t a discussion forum allow for all sides of a discussion? I drift in and out of this thread. I follow it but don’t post that much. I agree that there can be positing the same opinion too many times. And maybe that’s happened. But even so, this thread is 97 pages long. New people are going to come in and dredge up old points without going back to the beginning. It’s the nature of this place.

Season 3 tried a similar thing, though discarding much of the past season characters didn't help. But, it tried, and set up a new story with consequences from the past. Interesting. Then it paused to go through a memory maze of all these different touchstones of Picard's life. It didn't feel in service to the story, but tacked on wherever it could be done. It also still used the mystery box format with a strange payoff, so that didn't help. The history is repetitive.

I really could've done without the TNG reunion. :shifty:

The Queen came back in Voyager.

It's been a thing for twenty-five years now (Voyager and its Borg virus bio-weapon was the main reason she was ripped to shreds on Picard).

I wish they had created a new Queen for Picard S3. That way, it would've shown the Borg adapting (just as they've always done).

The would have made for a short season.

At the risk of repeating myself, I actually believe the season could have gotten by with 6-8 episodes. There felt like a lot of wheel spinning at a few points in the season. There was also the issue of not feeling like there was a lot of urgency. There's a big threat out there and we have time to go look at a starship museum and all of these artifacts? And there were like three episodes in a row where Federation Day was "hours away." That was a big problem I had with the back end of the season.

But that was the whole point. It was basically a long TNG movie. The only difference was it wasn't on a big screen.

I mean... did anyone come out of Star Trek 6 and say "Well, I could have done without a TOS reunion..."? They're missing the whole point if so.

:scream: Michelle Hurd seems to think she'd be involved with Legacy.

Dave Blass has said he'd like to upgrade the Enterprise-G if Legacy is greenlit.

Todd Stashwich seems pretty convinced Shaw will be revived in some way if Legacy happens.

I don't think Michelle Hurd, Dave Blass, and Todd Stashwich would be so far off-base with Terry Matalas.

As far as Jeri Ryan herself, she's onboard if Legacy was greenlit.

All this leads me to believe Legacy would feature Captain Seven and the Enterprise-G crew.

Holy forking shirtballs!

This is the most we've heard about Legacy in months!

What rankled me was that they threw out most of the Picard S1-2 cast to do it! :scream:

I will admit that I'm probably that way. Although my issue about it isn't so much that I'm not interested in it, but rather that I'm more annoyed at Matalas for basically filling fans with false hope and using them in a vain effort to get his pet project greenlit.

Totally agree, there were some fantastic characters there! Rios stings, personally, he was a lot of fun.

But the unfortunate truth was that season 1 was basically just getting (tricking?) Stewart on board so they could guide him towards the reunion he was opposed to doing.

I really hate that Rios was basically put in a spot that doesn't really allow for an easy appearance in any upcoming production, Legacy potential or not. His story is done done.

To be fair, not just the fans. But the actors, designers, writers, production staff....

Besides, it's just hope. Doesn't have to be false to still be hope. Just because the likelyhood of it happening is small doesn’t mean we can't have some "doesn’t change my life one way or another but it would be nice" hope attached to this. It only seems to hurt those that truly despise the idea of having the option to not watch a show called Star Trek or something.

They EASILY could have kept Rios in place of Shaw. Made it more about having a conflict between a mentor and mentee where there was a real disagreement as opposed to having to play the Wolf 359 card. Again.

Hey, I got nothing against hope. I'm personally still hoping for either a Romulan War/Birth of the Federation series or a Rachel Garrett pre-Enterprise-C series. Both take place in eras we know virtually nothing about. They could present us something new without being entirely reliant on nostalgia.

TNG was over twenty years ago, then it was supposed to be done with Picard season one. Then we got two more seasons. Sometimes an abrupt final goodbye is better than saying goodbye over and over and over again.
