Hell, he was only around for 75-80% of this season.

Blame the producers of "Sex Education" for that one.

That said, I wish they had delayed starting for a month when they found out, rathet than having to make two mostly Doctor-less episodes. (Even though ironically they were both pretty good.)

I can see him staying for a bit longer, if RTD can convince him to and if he likes the part enough.

Though it's probably wishful thinking, as I want to finally have a Doctor who stays for at least five full series worth.

Well, they have already finished Season 2 before the first season finishes, effectively gives Varada and Ncuti (and Millie?) a gap year to film other stuff, which seems to have been one of the reasons other actors have stepped aside.

He's got a film, a TV mini-series and a play lined up. So I think he'll be back for 3 but they can't give a year long break between series every time so I think that'll be it.

But they could film Season 3 and 4 near simultaneously as they have with 1 and 2 to allow another "gap year" for the cast and crew between 4 and 5.

Eight episodes really isn't enough time to grow to know The Doctor or companions. If they're going to remain only 8 episode seasons then I hope that Ncuti breaks the modern trend and does at least 4 "full" seasons to make up for the missing time.

While I'll always be a fan of the bigger US TV seasons from the 90s/early 2000s I get why shorter seasons became a thing, but its getting ridiculous at this point. Once you cut down to 8 episodes, 6 can't be far behind, then 4 is right there and soon we'll be lucky to get the equivalent of a TV/Streaming movie.

Between that and the one set stories and whatnot, we’re now at peak Austerity Who.

I love how they film 16 episodes back to back and call it two seasons now. It's like we're almost back to Moffat's split season thing. Well, at least 16 > 13. But it does seem like this season has just started and we're already at the finale!

I wish we can get back to 10 to 12 a year, that'd be a major, major coup for RTD if he can manage it. Cause yeah, the 8 episode feels like a speedrun. While I love that we got plenty of new RTD to gorge at, new/other writers returning for two or four more eps would've been just as dandy.

I think the number of episodes is due to the number Disney are willing to contribute money to more than anything else.

Ha, ha, ha, ha ,ha. The internet was right, for once.

And let's be honest, the title of Episode 8 alone should have given it away. Well that and the friggin' giant sandstorm destroying London in the trailers!

Okay I love Gods stuff (gives me Gaiman vibes) and the Susan “misdirection”. I got excited when I saw the ep was written by RTD. Slightly creeped out which normally i don’t get with Doctor Who so that’s really cool! Any Jemma Redgrave content is good content to me (i love her so much).

Too tired to write an actual review/my thoughts (i hate the midnight drop), gonna try to go to sleep even though im vaguely creeped out/paranoid by the echoing voice effect.

I’ve managed to keep away from basically any updates so i go into EVERY episode blind with no information:shrug: which is more fun than I thought it would me

So, was all the talk about how the finale was connected to a Pertwee era story just misdirection to cover the fact it's actually connected to Pyramids of Mars?

As for this episode, meh. It's engaging enough while watching, but really, when you get right down to it, what actually happened? We spend a good chunk on revisiting Christmas Eve 2004, than we address Susan Twist's real identity as Sutekh, but otherwise, nothing else. Granted, this is a common problem with many RTD two parters, and undoubtedly next week will be insanely over the top, but this week's just felt for the most part like padding. Maybe my views will change next week when I'm able to assess the entire story, but that's my opinion in this moment.

Sian Clifford from "Fleabag", amongst many other things, is playing a character mysteriously called "Kind Woman" in next week's episode.

She's too big an actor to playing an unnamed extra, so will she be pulling double duty as Ruby's mother and the real Susan?

I had the non-english credits going by, and I noticed in every language that used latin characters, the title appeared to be the same as the English, but in Italian it was "Il Dio Della Morte" which is 'The God of Death'.

I wonder why it was changed in Italian.

It's all there when you look back. The noise the TARDIS was making was the same one that is in Pyramids when Sutekh breaks in. Even the colours of the vortex in the credits was a hint. (And Russell even told us it was a clue to something!)

And he must have been laughing his head off writing the scene where the Doctor takes the companion back to their ruined present to show what happens if they don't beat the villain.

Brilliant. Spectacular. Full of intrigue and surprise, the episode kept me on the edge of my seat the whole episode, and then blew my mind with the final reveal. This whole episode was a complete win from beginning to end. It doesn't mean that the overall season hasn't been mixed, but its looking like they're going to end the season with a bang, I can't wait to see what happens next.

voted 10/10, loved it. Definitely have to rewatch Pyramids of Mars before next week.
