What grade would you give the Marvel Cinematic Universe? (Ever-Changing Question)

Oh, okay. I guess he struck me as younger than that on iZombie. Also, I tend to think of Reed as a mature father figure, old enough to have gray temples and two kids. I'm really, really hoping this isn't another origin movie, because we've had three already and none of them were that good. The FF's origin is the least interesting thing about them, and even their comics debut only covered it briefly in a mid-issue flashback. They're so much more interesting as an established, veteran team/family.
 
I forget who (probably Feige) has already said this film won't be an origin story.

As for age, 38 is plenty old enough to have grey temples and be a mature father figure with two kids. I don't have the two kids (choices and other factors played into that), but at 38, I was already greying.

Yes, I think we discussed this somewhere else. Reed would probably have been mid-late thirties assuming he was 18-24 by the end of World War II. We discussed it in the context of his relationship with Sue and their age difference.

At the time of the FF's origin, yes, but as I said, the last thing an FF movie should do is rehash their origin yet again.

That's my point -- Reed's age would depend on when the movie is set, whether it's an origin story where the team's still pretty young or a story set some years later when they're a well-established team and Franklin and Valeria are around. We've seen the former approach done three times, counting the Corman movie, and it's never been that good. So I'm hoping they won't return to that well again.

Do we know if Elizabeth Olsen wants to come back? I've seen conflicting statements from her. I know she loves the character but I also know she's keen to flex her acting muscles in other directions.

She was willing to voice Wanda in What If? season 2 and I think she's back in S3.

I actually think of Reed Richards as someone who looks older than he actually is because of premature graying at his temples. His face never really fit the hair color. Which I actually think lines up with that particular actor (Rahul Kohli)

Well, it's a moot point anyway, since they cast the 49-year-old Pedro Pascal as Reed, and the others' ages are in line with that (Vanessa Kirby is 36, Joseph Quinn is 30, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is 47). So that gives me hope that I'll finally get to see them portrayed onscreen as a well-established team and family rather than getting another rehash of their origin.

That seems like a fairly safe bet because Kevin Feige didn't have any desire to rehash the origins of the Hulk or Spider-Man either.

I remember an interview with comic book legend Marv Wolfman in which one of the many things he spoke about was his Fantastic Four novel, "Doomsday", that was published in 1979. He commented that his original draft of the Fantastic Four's origin took up an entire chapter and when he read through that there were too many things that were just absolutely ridiculous about it (Reed stealing a top secret military device with his girlfriend and her teenage brother for one thing). In the end, he and his editor agreed to tighten it up to about two paragraphs and move on. Victor von Doom's origin, however, needed two chapters to be properly told.

I'm pretty sure they've already said this will not be an origin story, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was still relatively early in the time as the FF. Similar to the approach DC they took in The Batman.
 
Whether Reed is older than Sue (which was not a problem until some decided it was), or he simply suffers from premature greying, it is of no importance. What is important is a F.F. live action film finally understanding the essence and heart of what made the F.F. a the super-heroic/sci-fi gold standard during its far and away greatest period in the 1960s (the origin is a part of that).
 
I hope they don't have the kids. While I'm familiar enough with Franklin, don't know or care about the second one and really don't want either. Let the FF be the classic FF for awhile before bringing in any kids. As for the origin, yeah, I want to see it. Preferably in an opening credits montage or something. I always wanted to see those Kirby Cosmic Rays "tac tac tac"-ing through the ship's hull. As for Reed, his test pilot best friend, his girlfriend and kid brother stealing a top secret government ship that he worked on......it's comics. It's part of the fantasy. You're either along for the ride or you're not.

My idea is to have a character come into the Baxter Building to request their help, and while they're waiting in the lobby, there's a narrated video of the FF's origin story playing on the lobby screens in the background.

Although I do enjoy a cool opening title sequence. Not enough of those anymore.
