Spoilers Lord of the Rings TV series

That trailer was pretty cool. Definitely looking forward to seeing where things go now that we got the big Sauron reveal.

Along with the trailer we also got a new synopsis.
In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season One’s epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.

Posting this here after I accidently posted it in the wrong thread before
We now have a new behind the scenes look at Season 2

I was surprised they actually showed Maxim Baldry back as Isildur, since they seem to be wanting us to think he's dead. I guess they must have realized that it's pointless to play up him being dead, since anyone with any familiarity with the lore knows he has to still be alive.
It looks like Galadriel got herself a new black horse.

Highlights for me:

Love seeing the various elven armours: both the trailer and the BTS video show the Eregion elven warriors with the gold and turquoise green helmets, and deep green capes / outfits. This type was briefly seen in Season 1 when Galadriel brought Halbrand to Eregion when he was ‘wounded’ by eruption / creation scene of Mordor. When they arrive outside a courtyard, several of these good / green elves assist in carrying him inside. Overall - this type of outfit has something of a creative flair about it (bright, almost lurid green, and gold mottled helms - as well as softy garment, furnishing over armour) not dissimilar to Celebrimbor’s green outfit. These elves are also seen drawing their swords on Annatar’ / Sauron (Charlie Vickers’).

The second type of armour, is the one seen mostly in the BTS vid: silvery, grey armour, with a crest in the helm (with segmented connecting struts / supports inside the cavity of the crest). I think this is the same armour that was seen in an earlier leak, months ago now - which shows two elven horsemen, with leaf motifs on their shields, and horse armour. The BTS vid shows an elf spinning in slow motion with their sword, battling orcs in a forest scene / background foliage. This armour type is also shown in a clip, with elven warriors running across a battlefield, with fortress / castle / elven city walls in the background - and camera crew filming in the foreground.

The third type of armour shown, appears to be similar to the previous, but with more green cloaking, and a silvery green helm, which has a pointed, sharp crest, with no supporting struts (a hollow cut-out). This type of helm could be also what Elrond is seen wearing in closeup (with dirt on his face, and wearing a green cloak with an elvish broach / clasp. Because the shot cuts off the top half of the helm, it’s difficult to tell exactly what the helm looks like.

There’s also a fourth brief armour scene in the BTS, showing Galadriel and Elrond, in a forest [Birches / Lindon?], and there’s a guard with a burnished gold helm and armour. This appears to be Lindon guard armour, as seen in Season 1 - but with a tall two piece knife like crest which joins a vertical point. I don’t recall seeing this type of helm on this guard

Outside of these armoured elves, we also see the ranger-type elves with Galadriel and Elrond, in the [possible barrow-wight].

That’s all I’ve got at the moment - will try and grabs some screenshots and add shortly!

Is this the first LOTR story that actually has Sauron as an active character, rather than just an abstract threat that's off screen/page the whole time?

Sauron played an active part in the tale of Beren and Luthien from The Silmarillion. That is, in fact, where Galadriel's brother was killed.

The Fall of Numenor book details Sauron's actions in the creation of the Rings and in the destruction of Numenor all the way to The Last Alliance of Elves and Men and the end of the second age.

Oh OK. I never read The Silmarillion, so I wasn't sure how much he was actually in it.

I think it was only after the Fall of Numenor that his is forced into the form we generally remember him in, as he is basically around only because of the One Ring.

His physical body (I'm assuming its his original one) is destroyed with Numenor and, while he is able to create a new one eventually, he's never able to take on a "fair form" again, which leads to him being the armored guy we see in the movies.

That said, the movies don't get it right because he is never a giant flaming eyeball, he regains a physical form (after losing his physical form again after losing the one ring) at some point before Fellowship of the Ring, he definitely has a physical form when he tortures information out of Gollum, from what I remember, and possibly had it while under the guise of the "Necromancer" in Mirkwood.
