Fifth Season is Final Season

A dog that kills someone is put down regardless of whether it "knows" what it did. Besides that, I don't think you need to "learn" that murder is wrong, thats some Zack Snyder logic (as seen in his "magnum opus" Man of Steel).
Your dog example is a poor one, given the assumption is still based in our universe, at best. Not the world of the Terran Empire, were such attributes are viewed as strength.

How does one learn this? Through modeled behavior, social learning theory, and moral development from interacting with family, peers and the wider community. Some other theorists hold that it is innate, but that is still debated.

So, the claim that "you don't need to learn murder is wrong" assumes that all people think like you.

Also, I hope you just quoted Heinlein and his notably fascistic book ironically, although either way I guess that fits with Mirror Georgiou's character (she would also probably hate/not understand the movie, like a lot of a certain group on the internet have been doing recently).
The book has more lessons on leadership and morality and philosophy than many Star Trek episodes. If the quote fits, I use it.

Ok, well... have fun with your philosophy, I guess. I think thats all absolute bullshit personally, but have no desire to argue with someone who believes stuff like that.

Cheaper? By what metric? They’re planning on building the biggest trek set in history.

Well, how do you get such a universalist moral belief? How long has that existed through human history?

It's not "my philosophy " but one currently debated. I personally belive in an innate morality, but I fail to comprehend how someone from another universe gets the same morality?

Or to give a more Trek spin on it:
Quark: Maybe, but I still don't want you anywhere near them. Let me tell you something about humans, nephew. They're a wonderful, friendly people as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time, and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You don't believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.

A bummer that it's ending, but just be glad we get five seasons. Even if those five seasons only adds up to two seasons worth of old Trek. (Scratch that, five seasons of LDS is actually closer to one season of TNG or DS9. Okay, it's starting to look bleaker. ;))

If the entire series is set on campus, that would save mucho deniro long-term.

(I'm not saying that is what they're doing, just speculationing.)

Given that season 5 is also the final season for Discovery; safe assumption that Strange New Worlds will end after five seasons?
Yes, I think it's safe to say now that 5 is the new 7.

I guess, if the pattern holds, SFA will have some Super Seniors or Grad Students.

Its sucks that its over. If any show could have reached seven seasons in the current era, and even reach 100 episodes, it was this show. But at least its going to be aired, instead of being a victim of a tax write off. And its going out on a high note, instead of going on endlessly and getting stale. So, count your blessings.

Hopefully whatever takes its place will be good.

Well,

- this is a terrible way to start the weekend. What disappointing news. I love Lower Decks - it managed to supplant DS9 as my favourite Star Trek show - so to find out it's coming to an end so soon is saddening.
Fortunately, I find it very rewatchable, so the BluRays will continue to provide my fix (I just hope season 4 is released in the UK v.soon, and there's not an interminable delay with season 5). And there's always fan art!

“Finally, thank you for always being so creative and joyful, for filling convention halls and chanting ‘LOWER DECKS!’ We remain hopeful that even beyond season five, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures.”

This screams higher rank spinoff of Lower Decks to me. Like eventually by the end of season 5 they will be Lt. Rank or higher most likely so they won't be Lower Deckers anymore, so the name of the show won't make sense at that point, but it sents up a great opportunity for a Spinoff on a more presigious ship like the Titan. Outside chance the hint means Academy or Legacy cameos instead of animated series spinoff.
~ Oh, I hope so, I really do. I'd love to see our Lower Deckers moving on to other things. And it looks like @Sumire had a similar thought:

I am quite saddened to find this out. Both my beloved Trek animated shows gone too soon. :wah:

I will remain hopeful that this is not truly the end. Could there be a future where Lower Decks no longer describes our main characters, thus necessitating a new title? I hope so.

I adored the live action crossover but as a lover of animation, I hope Trek continues to have animated shows. Animation lends itself to a much wider array of guest stars too.

I eagerly look forward to the second season of Prodigy and the fifth season of Lower Decks. I will enjoy each episode to the utmost and treasure each beloved character more than ever. That way, if this truly is the end of an era in animated Trek, I’ll have sucked the marrow out of it, and if my hope that there is more to see from these setups is true? Then I get joy on top of joy.
~ I will remain hopeful with you, Sumire. Here's to "joy on top of joy"!

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

This is sad news, but at least the show gets a fifth season. I was more upset at Prodigy's cancellation as it was a new show full of promise.

I hope the producers were given enough notice and the show doesn't end on a cliffhanger. :scream:

I guess having current shows going out on five seasons helps with costs, and keeps things fresh. I hope the show goes out on a high note regardless.

This season was written last year, between March and October, so long before the cancellation announcement.

Mike in an interview last year didn't seem sure they'd get a Season 6. It's possible they did know or saw the writing on the wall far enough in advance to not write the season in a cliffhanger.

I'm still waiting for you to "lose your shit" over Section 31 taking place in the early 24th century.
