Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (Zack Snyder, Dec. 22 on Netflix)

Two things i didn't understood:
1. How did the Farmer boy/man knew how to unlock the Scorpion Prison head lock? He just came off as someone that never left the village.
2. Why did they needed to gather all this few people to help safe the village? Don't normaly in this situation you would either flee the village, or buy guns to defend it?

Was this supposed to be a Sci-Fi or Super Hero movie?

1) I dunno, possibly he just saw how the Imperial guys locked them in and figured he could do it backwards.
2) It's a lift from Magnificent Seven and Seven Samurai. The hired warriors are supposed to help defend the village but also teach the villagers how to fight and build defenses...course in both of those stories the bad guys were just random bandits, not people with a Battleship.

I just finished watching it, and I liked it. No it wasn't an original story, but it was fun as a big dumb action movie. I did find the world building interesting enough to check out the comic and the novelization.
It gave me pretty much what I've come to expect from a Zack Snyder movie, not necessarily the best story, but lots of cool visuals and great action, and that's enough for me to enjoy a movie.
The end did catch me by surprise.
I'm curious what exactly lead to Arthelais going on the run, I have a couple theories but I'm not entire sure which one it will be yet.

Ya know what? I don't remember a single character's name.
Honestly...i don't either... I might remember SOME of the actors (and even then -- if i hadn't known Ray FIsher was in it, i wouldn't have known....and i had to look up who COrey Stoll played ; which is good as far as acting, but bad that the actor was still how i knew them). I thought i read Sofia's character was named after a saint for the 500's...?

Best review yet. :D

I'm just not sure there's much more to say about it. Though there is a YouTuber that I follow that goes into much more detail...

If, as you say, "Rebel Moon Part 2" is being released next week with zero publicity, then the "Army of the Dead" sequel "Planet of the Dead" might not be moving forward and Netflix could possibly quietly terminate their "First Look" contract with Snyder since it was only a two year deal anyway and it ended at the end of 2023.
Looking online, it looks like Snyder was contracted to deliver an "Army of the Dead" sequel and an animated prequel, "Lost Vegas" both in 2022, followed by "Rebel Moon, Parts 1 & 2" and another animated series called "Twilight of the Gods", which was due in 2023.
Seeing as Snyder has only delivered on one of these announced projects, the "Rebel Moon" two parter, Netflix might still go forward with Snyder, but not throw all their marketing weight behind him.

I don't mean this facetiously but where does the publicity for these projects come from? I seem out of touch with normal channels these days (cut the cord and so on) so I'm curious when it's said there's been no publicity for this where would it be and how is this different than normal?

I would think YouTube ads and Facebook/social media ads.

It might have made sense as an ad in a movie theater too.

And with Netflix....they even have ads and other prompts to get people interested.

Also, guys.... are we just gonna give up on a separate thread, and just post our comments on part 2 here?

Netflix seems to like to wait until right before, or after their stuff comes out to start pushing it, so we might seeing more ads and stuff for it next week. I believe the first one was in the Top 10 for a while, so it must have done fairly well.

It got far fewer viewing hours than most other Netflix Original movies, though.

Oh OK, I never saw any report on the numbers, I just remember seeing it listed on the top viewed movies right after it came out.
