Starting season 5 out of “completion sickness”…

I have stayed with this show way too long, but might as well keep at it for the last run. Never would have guessed we would get another breadcrumb season  Someone on that writing staff just cant help themselves. I almost got a giggle when they realized the map to the McGuffin was broken into 5 parts. With the desperate financial straights Paramount finds itself in, this is most likely the end of the Paramount/Trek relationship, with Discovery most likely being the last (or close ) hoorah. I am hopeful for the future, and hoping we can get something new and more to the spirit of the original.

There have been four new series since DISCO. Three of which will be premiering their latest seasons after DISCO streams it's last episode. There's also a fifth series in the works.
So a few more "hurrahs".

Baffles me that anyone would watch a show they don't like, which is behind a pay wall, so they have to go out of their way to get a subscription service just to see it. For five seasons over a seven-year span.

That's a real dedication to wasting not only time, but also money. I'd invest that time and money into something I actually like.

Haha. I agree with some of this. I haven't lived this series but feel I have to watch it since it's considered "prime canon". I have that completist attitude as well. Lol. Discovery had its issues. There are some things I liked but unfortunately a lot that I did not. I have spoken about much of it in other threads and won't rehash it right now.
As for Trek ending..??? Unfortunately you are wrong about that. Why do I say unfortunately?? Well I think it never really got a proper break after Enterprise. It had at most a four year break and then went Right to the Kelvin movies.

But a new 32nd century series is coming as well as the Michelle yeoh film and then I think the cartoon has a new season coming. SNW also has its third season coming.

Sadly out of all 5 series. The closest It felt to previous Trek for me was Picard Season 3. And not only because it reunited the TNG cast. But they adhered to continuity much better and just had a great story. The first two seasons respected continuity but they were just not that good story wise IMO.

SNW is ok but it has changed so much backstory at this point it doesn't feel like a prequel to TOS.

Anyhow Trek is not going anywhere right now. Even though I think it needs a break. I'm even at odds with that. If they take a 10 year break I will be getting really long in the tooth. Lol So I'm not really sure about a break now. But what I don't want is more 32nd century Trek. Lol

I can understand someone being a completist though. I'm kinda like that myself with Trek and Star Wars. I have stuck with Disco mainly because of that. There are a few elements I have liked (mostly actors/characters) that have kept me around.

Discovery was not made to feel like previous Trek.

The completionist attitude is bizarre. So, in the name of seeing all of it I'm going to make myself miserable! :wtf:

Yeah, I don't get that. There are several Trek series I have nor completed because life is too short to be miserable over entertainment choices.

I just don't do the completionist thing. Even though I know full well that people who are fans of the things I'm not watching are going to come at me every now and then with, "Why don't you watch?" And not just with Star Trek. I'm either into something or I'm not. The End.

Discovery has a small but very vocal contingent of haters.

As fans of the show, we beg you all to stop watching it and/or get professional help if you keep watching it.

I'm trying to picture them when it comes time for Starfleet Academy and Section 31. "Not only do I have to watch Discovery all the way through to the end, I must see its spin-offs!"

I was already looking forward to Section 31, then finding out when it's set made me even more interested.

Starfleet Academy, I'm hopeful that they can pull off doing what was done on something like That '70s Show where even though it was about teenagers, it was still watchable for adults, and they had two different sets of the characters: the teens and the adults. If Tilly's in it, she won't just be in the background, and I'm guessing she'll still have to report to Vance.

Strange New Worlds is a spin-off of Discovery too. Someone might say "Pike was around before Discovery!" To which I say: Yeah, but it's the Discovery version of Pike that people wanted to see more of.

So, yeah. "Discovery is dead! Long live Discovery!"

It was no different than DISCO or PIC1-3. It just had TNG characters and a lot more call backs.
Season threes story was much more enjoyable then Picard season 1 and 2 imo. It wasn't just callbacks or tng characters.

What he means is that it had LCARS and a TOS looking Constitution. That's really the extent of Picard season 3 "respecting canon."

Apparently you haven't read my other posts in the past. Yes disco totally botches most of it's look up in season 1. SNW tried to fix some of it. It doesn't have to look exactly like TOS. But the Enterprise should not be twice as big, have a turbo lift interior the size of the Grand canyon and should adhere to simple back story. Other then that the look of SNW is great. Following established canon it's not and people can try to justify it all they want. All the shows have canon issues but DISCO and then SNW took it to a level I had never seen before.
