Body And Soul

I'd love to see Jeri Ryan imitate the the other members of Voyager. I bet she'd do Chakotay well (no pun intended).

Jeri Ryan as Kate Mulgrew wot?

It's an exceptional episode. I often like to compare "Body and Soul" with Farscape's "Out of Their Minds."

"Body and Soul" is almost a textbook example of how to do a body-switching episode. It's largely dependent on character humour and dead-on impersonations; and as a result is genuinely funny.

"Out of Their Minds" is certainly a textbook example of how not do a body-switching episode. It avoids any character impersonations at all and ramps up the puerile body-groping gags and bodily functions for all they're worth. It's not even remotely funny.

This isn't to say "Body and Soul" is perfect. Like some other episodes which touch on holographic rebellion, the concept is perplexing to say the least - without mobile emitters, how could these holograms pose any threat at all to this society, and if they do have such emitters how come they are otherwise so backward? Some of the romantic goings on are a tad trite as well.

But with its central premise it does everything right, and on those grounds is one of VOY's best high-concept episodes.

I personally think you're over thinking it.

I'm a Star Trek fan. It's in the job description. ;)

Yeah man, why do we all do that?
I always say to myself: "Damn, that's so annoying!"...........then I find myself doing it too.

Trust me, just ask me about "Before & After" vs. "Year of Hell" and I just go off!!!

Kimc right now is like: "Yeah, please don't get him started."

Well they did seem to be going for a Doctor/Seven thing at first...
Which I'm glad they dropped.

While it's helps the Doc. seem more human, it makes Seven seem detached because she isn't having emotions for a being of flesh and blood. It makes her indentify as more machine than (hu)man.

Which I did like ("Someone to Watch Over Me" is one of the best episodes of the series IMHO), but I was also content for it to remain unrequited love on the Doctor's part. More tragic that way.

It's not an issue that comes up either way in this episode, especially as the Doctor is focusing his amorous intent on another woman.

I have to agree that once unrequited love goes into the requited love territory quality seems to drop. Happened in Frasier, happened in DS9 with Kira and Odo and still happened here (despite Chuckles nudging into the party).

Yeah, kinda but too me on DS9 it was necessary. It was that love from a human(for Kira) that Odo brings with him to share with the Founders. It's the one gift Odo brings to the Great Link to teach the Changlings, so they no longer fear solids.
