Boom, edited the thread title.

Sorry, Michael.

VOY: I think the premise of the show is almost completely thrown away, very early on, but in terms of characters I think it’s the best. And Voyager herself is pretty. The theme is good as well.

For seasons or individual episodes I wouldn’t know where to start. I don’t actively hate any episode or season. To me, Star Trek is 5% excellence with a whole lot of brouhaha beneath that I like to varying degrees.

Voyager was never my cup of tea, and I thought they kinda squandered their original premise.

But I really love Robert Picardo’s and Jeri Ryan’s performance in many of the episodes.

I’ve always thought this is one of the most romantic things Trek has ever done, and I love their chemistry.

If a Legacy series does ever happen, I would love a scene where they’re reunited and have a dance.

Excellent Post!!!

The stinger shot in "Fury" of Kes walking down the corridor with everything exploding behind her was 100% badass. And they kind of tried to tell a story about old age and senility but it got very, very lost.

Star Trek VI ruins Spock's character and the entire crew's, by having him mind-rape Valeris while they all just stand and watch, but the rest of it was okay. And I loved the way they made the Enterprise-A look old and worn out... even if it was only 7 years old at the time.

Sorry, Michael.
Nothing to be sorry about, Richard. I thought your post was hilarious.

Definitely. I find it hard to really hate anything about it. Strong dislike, certainly, but not hate.

While I agree that Picardo and Ryan were great with pretty much everything they gave them, the moments where they hinted at the doctor falling in love with Seven always rubbed me the wrong way. Their relationship was played more like father/daughter or at least mentor/mentee, so the vibe was totally off when he suddenly expressed feelings for her.

Yes! That was indeed a pretty cool special effects sequence. That exploding corridor was completely CGI, wasn’t it? Looked pretty much like the real thing.

To me, of all the pairings they’ve tried with Seven, she had the most chemistry with The Doctor. I NEVER bought the relationship with Chakotay, and I didn’t feel any chemistry between her and Raffi either.

As far as the mentor-mentee relationship between them, I always saw it as part of “the joke” that she’s taking lessons from a hologram who is also an altered aspect of humanity trying to understand what it means to be human just as much as she is. It’s the blind leading the blind, and while he’s trying to instruct her, she teaches him as much as he teaches her.

At best, it’s unrequited on The Doctor’s part, but I always took the episode where Seven fights with Janeway over her decision to delete aspects of The Doctor’s program as showing that she cares and has an affection for him on a deep level. It’s not a romantic love, but an appreciation for him as a person and individual, probably more than anyone else on the crew at that point.

Fantastic idea for a thread!

Worst season:
PIC season 2: There's almost nothing redeemable there for me, even hated all the Q conversations.
However - Anny Wershing was doing a great "captured Borg queen" performance!

Worst series:
Picard gave us the absolute fantastic warrior monk Worf!
Also the new Romulan look is great - different hairstyles, the "northerner/southerner" headridges - made the most boring looking villain species suddenly one of the best looking ones.

Best series
TOS is a trainwreck full of misogyny. Yet, is the best, most imaginative the franchise has ever been.
Just leaving this here...

Best season
SNW season 1 is way too short, a step back for diversity, no good overarching plot, has critical character background information left in a previous series.... and is IMO "only" the best season because the actually best ones (TOS 1&2, TNG 3-5) have aged SO DAMN MUCH, they're borderline unwatchable without thick nostalgia goggles now.

Why would the Doctor have to tell the computer what music to play? He's part of the computer himself.
:P

Least favorite show: TAS.

"Yesteryear" is a wonderful episode that adds a ton to Spock's backstory. "The Lorelei Signal" is also an excellent episode that see's Uhura sit in the captain's chair. And while obviously not as good as the live action nor modern animated shows IMHO, having Kirk & Spock on TV in the 70s was nice.

Season: TAS S2 (6 episodes).

Hardly fair with only 6 eps, but "How Sharper Than A Serpents Tooth" won a Emmy for outstanding daytime children's series.

Episode: TATV.

It was nice to see more Shran? The speech and montage are good.

Character: Malcolm Reed.

The actor did not have a lot to work with, playing a stuffy/reserved Brit. But "Shuttlepod One" was a quality episode.

Discovery - the writing/direction isn't for me. The actors/characters are great and the visuals are amazing. It has brought in fans and help setup the path to have more Trek

Voyager - it's a go-to show and has characters I can relate to. They made some weird or weak choices in character development/dynamics. Then not showing more their return to Earth still bugs me. Would've like to have seen Admiral Paris greet Tom's family. Barclay being appreciated for his contributions.

Pike is one of my favourite characters due to the performance of Anson Mount, but I think he is one of the weaker captains. After watching A Quality of mercy I would not follow him into battle, he is likely to get his crew killed.

My least fav show is Voyager but they did give us the first female captain as a leading character

Kirk, well I am one of the few people who don't like the character but recognise he is a great leader and a great captain. However for me, he comes across 'I can break all the rules and get away with it cos I am so priviliged', although I suspect IRL an officer like Kirk would have been booted out of the service.

My favourite show DS9, I recognise its flaws including that sometimes Avery Brooks does overact

Because he's program to mimic human patterns.

Least favorite: Enterprise-for me though, the design work is among the better in the franchise. It has a very grounded look that I think other Treks skirted around too much, and the uniforms felt like the best tie to our humanity, feeling a bit of a NASA and SEQUEST vibe to it.

It also has one of the best two parters in the franchise in "Terra Prime" and "Demons."

^ I would add Enterprise had the best Mirror universe episodes after the TOS original
I won't call it the best, but I personally think the Mirror Universe two parter is excellent, and does a fun twist on the introduction, use of Trek history, and a follow up to one of my favorite TOS episodes in the Tholian Web.

I will add that I think the Mirror Universe Episode also uses Trek history as a good set up for the action to follow. It doesn't explain a lot, but uses the history to create a new story. Really great use of lore.

The rulebreaker is a pop culture evolution of the character. In TOS, he actually followed rules for the vast majority of the time.

DISCO has at least had some decent episodes, namely, so far:

"If Memory Serves"
"Unification III"
"Terra Firma, Part 1"

TOS is frequently sexist, enabled by its time, if not a product of its time.

Early TNG is often pretty shonky looking and doesn’t quite line up with Season 3 onwards sometimes, but I think even when it’s bad, it’s an interesting show.

I keep getting this urge to do a rewatch. I haven’t watched it for over 15 years, aside from the odd episode here and there.
