"Bewitched" Being Rebooted As Hourlong Show

Another interesting point is that Samantha is a powerful woman who has lived 400 years and who has met the greatest artists, philosophers and historical figures of the last centuries. She abandons this life, family and friends to fulfill a trad-wife wet dream for a man whose greatest dream and aspiration in life is the Christmas bonus. It would be like an intelligent, cultured modern woman leaving her life behind to become the wife of a man in a remote primitive tribe in Borneo who has never had contact with civilization.

What psychological mechanism can push a person to make such a choice?

Love. Just because someone lives a long time doesn't mean they won't fall in love with people. She must have loved Darren for reasons only people who are in love can explain why they love who they do. I would think maybe one of the reasons she loves Darren is he doesn't want her to use her powers and wants to just live a normal everyday marriage. A lesser man might just pretend to care about her because he wants her to use her powers for personal gain. Exploit her for being a witch with magical powers. With a wrinkle of the nose Darren could become the riches most powerful man on the planet. Yet he rejects this possible power.

Just googled that. I wish I didn't.

It's like...

"You poor, you did not tell me you poor, If I know you poor, I would stayed in Latveria. You not real man. You sad girlyman.""

"But you said that you would %%%k me?"

"If You real man, you grab me by pussy!"

and so on....

(My wife made me watch of it, a few years ago.)

I watched the series many years ago, but I don't feel like Darrin ever appreciated the sacrifices Samantha made to be with him. On the contrary. He always portrayed himself as the victim.

Sam's family did go out of their way to victimize Darrin with a level of contempt that would not have existed if they were on the same, mortal playing field as Darrin.

When interpreting Bewitched as an allegory for interracial marriage, both Darren and Samantha could be read as the minority partner, depending on what aspect you are focusing on. That actually makes it a really good vehicle for allegorical storytelling.

Something else to consider was the concept of marriage in the immortal world. Neither Maurice nor Endora referred to one another as husband or wife, even in the past tense. They were simply Samantha's parents. I suspect they were never married at all, not in the mortal definition of the word. Perhaps Samantha's marriage was itself part of the problem, an institution that was not shared among other immortals.

Well, he made Samantha live the equivalent of a paraplegic servant in a cabin in the middle of the woods with no running water or electricity. She can say that she wanted this too as often as she wants, but if I were her relative too I would feel a little hostile towards him too.

Hmm, For beings that live for what, thousands of years, considering Sam being 400 is "Young" The mortal concept of Marriage, especially the more religious ones of "death do us part" is quite a long time.
Are there some witches that have been married for most of there long lives? probably. Would they have taken breaks? Would they have "split" for say a hundred years then get back together again? Sure, its possible. Sam's parents may have just been a 50 year "Fling".
Now its not a foreign concept as Sam's mom came along and wondered which Warlock caught Sam's heart, and only got irritated when Sam said it was a Mortal. So the concept of Witches and Warlocks being married is there.
Basically, alot of the concepts that we use or take for granted for our "Short" lifespan are pretty much meaningless to an immortal.

Alot of your posts have said this in various versions. That Sam marrying a mortal and being a housewife is the worst thing ever. And its Okay that her family is Physically and Mentally Hostile ( Hell Sam's dad Disintegrated him the second he saw him).

That is Victim Shaming. Its not like Darrin has Sam in chains, all he wants to do is live a normal life with his wife and eventually kids. He may be a bit of an ass sometimes, but its not like he's torturing Sam on the daily. She can literally leave at any time. She has chosen to be with him, on her own volition.

There have been plenty of Moms and Dads that didn't like there Sons or Daughters spouse ( My Ex wife being one, should have listened to them) But there are alot of times where there Kid is happy in there marriage with nothing really wrong, but the parents or family don't like there spouse for.. Reasons?
For Her mom, I really think her reason is that she doesn't have any control over Sam anymore, they've effectively called her a Kid numerous times for being only 400.. Plus there's the HATE of Mortals that most witches have.

Going down a bit of a rabbit hole.
Alegory example of, sadly what still happens, Lets say Sam is some rich person's daughter, say 19 years old, falls in love with some one, Now there parents are older, and they look down on say the poor and minorities. Sam marries said person. There's noting wrong in the marriage, they both love each other, and are happy. but the parents, maybe even the family are MAD, How dare a ***** take our daughter away, lets use our considerable influence, etc. to make "Darrin" life a miserable hell until he leaves our beautiful Sam. That is Darrins life in the show. Things may not be perfect between Him and Sam, but there happy. and the family HATES him. They don't see a person, just some.. animal, stereotype.. anything but a living being that they should respect.

But he didn't make her do anything. She used her magic all the time and frankly she always seemed more in control of the relationship. Almost like she was humoring him because she loved him with her choice to not use magic. He might get a little huffy but in the end they always kiss and makeup because they where in the end happy with each other.

Most Husbands can kill their wives without much exertion.

Most wives prepare their husbands food, so they can kill their husbands without a lot of exertion either.

Marriage is about two murderers not murdering each other, sometimes.
