Agreed.I honestly could do without as much as they try to do in SNW.
Is there something that makes things incompatible?SNW Uhura and TOS Uhura are the same exact character. They're the same person.

The Creators of the show have said he is. So he is.Assuming that there's only one M'Benga.
But... those are the characters. If the writers don't want to use those characters, there's not actual reason to bring those characters in. Literally nobody from TOS needed to be involved short of Spock.
But they ARE using the characters, and Paramount has been abundantly clear this is NOT a reboot. So... the writers are actually not doing a great job with some of these characters.

As a woman-identifying human approaching 70 years alive on this planet, I was and continue to be quite comfortable bringing these characters up to speed with current cultural sensibilities. If it had been created today this is what we'd have gotten, right? The Orville, but with characters we already knew and loved.
Your problem isn't with me, it's with the creators of the show.
We're not having a problem...
Sounds like there are several problems, because when I point out what the creators of the show have said about their work... I seem to be told i'm wrong and that's not how it should be.
No. We just think you're wrong. But we're enjoying the show, so no problem.
I mean that's great. I'm happy for you. I'm also generally enjoying the show.
I'm just... stating factually correct information. We have a defined path for these characters, as per the creators of the show.
If I state that James Kirk's middle initial is "R." I'm stating the same kind of "factually correct information" - by which I mean, a bit of previous fictional continuity that's been superseded by later stories - and it's just as unimportant now.
Sure it's absolute reasonable that some minor details can be tweaked over time. (or easily explained away, like that one... it was a mental projection from an unstable guy surging with newfound power... it's pretty safe to take that as unreliable information.)
It just sounds like people here are thinking we have some sort of total reboot here where anything can happen, which SHOULD totally be what this all is, but Paramount disagrees with us.
Dude, you've picked a hell of a hill to die on.I apologize for discussing a TV show on a forum devoted to that TV show. But also, fair enough and continue on with the conversation otherwise. No reason to continue on this track.

And? This is a discussion forum for that TV show.
Yep.
