Starship Reykjavík - Early Warning

Great story. As I said, really enjoyed the concept. Trujillo, one of the greatest soldiers of her generation, not just battling contemporary foes, but also taking on the enemy’s of the future. The execution was also splendid as was the dialogue and prose, as per usual.

The ending was a classic self fulfilling prophecy and I was glad to see that Chester and J'tris made it through the war, with the scars to prove it.

My only minor gripe may have been Trujillo's peculiar moment of reflection that war may not be something to ask for after all. Something I feel she should have known long before meeting people from the future. Maybe she did so intellectually but never really put the pieces together in her mind.

Regardless, real fun story, probably one of my favorite Reykjavik tales so far.

It was more the realization for her that she had long yearned for a conflict serious enough to convince Starfleet Command to stop dithering and take a more militaristic approach to the Federation's defense. Without fully understanding it, Trujillo had been wishing for a war, the opportunity to cut loose with Reykjavik and put her skills to the test, much like a professional athlete who's trained all their life but is never able to compete in an actual game or event. In Chester, Nandi finally sees the true costs of such a conflict, not in an abstract or hypothetical sense, but the concrete reality of a talented young officer forever scarred by what she's had to endure.

And that realization shamed her.

Yeah, I can kinda relate to that.

I do a lot of Event First Aid, sometimes at events that don't interest me, so I sometimes kinda want someone to get injured or sick so I've got something to do, which makes me feel guilty at the same time.
