Spoilers The Mandalorian Season 3

It's pretty clear the idea of the whole Pershing thread is to give the audience a way to check in with the New Republic, take the general temperature of things in the core worlds, give a general rundown of the amnesty program, see how the NR is thriving in some ways, and struggling in others (even with the best of intent.) It also leads into setting up the Shadow Council; both how selfish and divided they all are, but also how Gideon is doing an end-run around them for his own insane vanity project. This is basically putting the pieces on the board for Thrawn's inevitable return.

And despite claims of it being directionless; the bulk of season 3 of Mando was very much laser focused on tying up most of the loose threads of the first two seasons, ready for the Mandoverse to move onto the next "volume" of Din's & Grogu's story.
plus it was filler.
This statement is a contradiction in terms. A story can't fulfil a specific function to a larger story AND be filler. That's objectively nonsense.

Always a raises a few chuckles. Hopefully we'll see a return to form for Mandalorian season 4 (or for the film, whichever is released first)
