DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

Cool, I'm very curious to what Gunn and Co.'s take on the character will be like.

Outstanding!

Gunn on Alcock:
Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira.

Per Deadline, she will first appear in a DCU project prior to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but not necessarily Superman: Legacy.

Good for her but I'm just finding it hard to get excited for this movie.
Can't imagine why, but you do you.
Hopefully like the post crisis version. I’m not a fan of the other takes.
She'll be like the version in King and Evely's graphic novel, which is a masterpiece.

I almost want them to do the Matrix Supergirl because her whole story is so ridiculous even for a comic book character, but the modern Supergirl backstory makes more sense. I do hope they don't use quite the same version of her backstory as the TV show did (and then the Rebirth comics took from), having Supergirl land on Earth as a teenager and then adapting to Earth from there is more interesting then her landing at a younger age, getting adopted by humans and basically being completely comfortable on Earth by the time she's a superhero (which is what the TV show went with, and the newer comics took inspiration from).

Something a little weird in that THR piece:
In the comics, Supergirl dates back to Action Comics No. 252. Created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, the character is Superman’s cousin from Krypton. Faye Dunaway starred in the 1984 Supergirl film, while Melissa Benoist played the hero on the CW for six seasons from 2015-21. Sasha Calle starred as the character in the film The Flash.
I mean, yeah, technically Faye Dunaway starred in Supergirl '84, but in context it sounds like she played the title character, which she very much did not.

Well, if I can’t have more Sasha Calle in the part, then I’ll keep a faint hope for an Elseworlds Kingdom Come film with Cavill as Superman and Calle as Power Girl in about ten years. Hey, if Maguire came back as Spider-Man…

Yeah, Calle was ill-served, and I regret we will likely not see her again in the role. But it's the nature of these characters to keep changing thespian hands, and I very much look forward to seeing what Alcock brings to the legacy.

Nothing against the new one, just hoping for more of each of Cavill and Calle in some fashion. I’m looking forward to the new movie as I really liked the story.

Very interesting idea. I would love to see Cavill (and some of his fellow DCEU actors such as Affleck and Gadot) in a Kingdom Come adaptation. If any DC story ever deserved the live action treatment, its KC. Thoroughly entertaining, and insightful about the true nature of the publisher's core characters (featuring some uncomfortable exchanges between said core characters), and it served as a great non-continuity way of concluding the active careers of the Big Three.

Understood; while I've always believed Slater delivered a halfway-to-being-great interpretation of the Supergirl character, in the bigger picture, SG as a live action concept traveled a road chopped up up by massive fissures, with only a couple of stable areas (Slater and Calle) along the way. To date, the most consistent, interesting adaptation came in the form of the DCAU's Supergirl from Justice League Unlimited.

Just frees her up for an MCU role. Has Sue Storm been cast yet?

We live in an age when "research" has been reduced to "look it up on IMDb and call it a day."

I mean the Superman movie. Just feels like a mess with all these characters
First, as noted above, Deadline casts some doubt on whether Kara will be in Legacy. Second, I share your concerns about the glut of DC also-rans in the film, and can only hope that Gunn knows what he's doing there. But Kara is a proper "Superman family" character, and as such, I greet the prospect of her presence with nothing but excitement.
