DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

She was in Pacific Rim: Uprising and Bad Times at the El Royale. I don't remember much of Uprising, but I think she was pretty good in El Royale.

Well, if THR is right, she's apparently out of the running anyway (as is Emilia Jones, previously reported by Deadline as having been a candidate along with Alcock and Donnelly).

Like Nerys Myk, I feel pretty out of the loop on much of the current crop of actors. I've never seen Alcock or Donnelly in anything, so my opinion is limited to thinking that, of the two, Alcock has a more interesting look. But I trust Gunn to make the right selection, and I look forward to his pick and to her eventual performance.

Cailee Spaeny is the only one of them I've seen in anything, but I probably will see Alcock in House of the Dragon when Max comes around in my streaming rotation again.

I hadn't heard about Emilia Jones--too bad because she's a really promising talent.

Darn. Emilia was my pick, the others look to.. thin??

I know, you don't have to go all Gina Carano big, but someone with some muscle and weight to them.. i know.. superhero, but its kinda of a hypocritical sinerio where the guy has to bulk up to insane proportions to play a hero, but the women don't? Can be a 5'2" 100 lbs soaking wet going against a 6'5" guy and win? Say what you will about Brie Larson, she worked out for the role.

Why do you assume whoever gets the role won't bulk up?

As for believability, other than Batman and Black Widow these movies are literally all about people with magic powers (from our perspective). A Kryptonian can beat every human fighting champion in the world simultaneously regardless of whether they look like Dave Batista or whether they look like Billie Eilish. That's what being Kryptonian means.

Soo.. Kryptonian powers make superman look like a chiseled god, but supergirl.. not? I'm just complaining about the sexism against males.. they have to look big and powerful, day in and day out gym to supposedly look the part. I agree, superman doesn't have to look like he could bench press 500lbs.
Patty Jenkins did it right with wonder woman and the amazons i think.

No, Supergirl needs to look like a chiseled Goddess,

How about atleast going tall? Meg is 5'3" Milly is 5'5" how about a 6 foot or better tall actress?? Not many parts go there way due to the current aesthetics. A Rebecca Romijn (number one) comes to mind. She's 5'11" and looks like she could kick someones ass.

Bruce Lee was 5'8".
Why exactly should Supergirl be tall or look like she can kick someone's ass?

Yeah, but she also feels like she's far outside of the age they're looking for at 51. You want someone tall, Taylor Swift is 5'11" and routinely wears 6" heals making her 6'5". She would just have to bulk up, ala Natalie Portman for Thor Love and Thunder.

Of course there is another alternative. Natalie Portman spent most of her time in Love and Thunder standing on stages and runways to make her appear taller, so that's an option for a shorter acress too.

There have been more live action versions of Superman that did not look like a chiseled god than ones that did. And there are plenty of other men playing superheroes that don't, either.

To the extent that there is sexism at play, it's just as much against women as men since the fact that women such as, say, Gwendolin Christie or Gina Carano are actually discriminated against for looking too tall/butch to fit people's beauty standards shows the women are being still being judged on beauty standards even when the men aren't and even though beauty usually isn't relevant to superheroes.

A good actor should never be turned away for no other reason than being a little short. Height can always be fudged by camera tricks. Tom Cruise is tiny.

Well you just said it, tall, muscular women don't have that many parts to begin with, and with something like supergirl, it would be a good fit, and should be looked at over "normal" height women. but I do agree, doens't really matter in the big scheme of things, if an actor/actress isn't exactly perfect, it can be glossed over or camera angle. Look at Hugh Jackman, wolverine is a short stumpy 5'3" ( shorter than Tom Cruise) but Hugh is 6'3" it worked. . Gal Gadot is 5'10" , Maya Hawke is 5'9" that would work.

If they want a tall actor for the visuals they'll get one. But Supergirl was never supposed to be particularly tall that I'm aware of, so I'm not going to get upset at them not considering taller actors for a character who was never really supposed to be tall.

FWIW, per various official DC bios ("Who's Who" entries and the like), the pre-Crisis Supergirl was 5'7". Her post-Crisis reboot incarnation was 5'5" (though she was in her teens at the time, and might reasonably have gained a couple inches subsequently).

According to (possibly inaccurate) Internet sources, Helen Slater and Melissa Benoist are both 5'8". Laura Vandervoort is 5'6", and Sasha Calle is 5'7".

Regardless, the DCU Supergirl will be as tall as whomever they cast (or however tall they choose to make her appear onscreen).

Thanks. Yeah, that's about what I figured, just by my memory of how the different versions I've seen looked on screen/on the page.

It could also be a consideration that Rachel Brosnahan is quite petite, at 5'3". They may prefer not to have Kara towering over Lois, if they should have scenes together at some point.
