Okay, how did this get past ME all these years?!

Dang. How come that didn't show up on my big-bleeping book o' blueprints?! Assuming they didn't whip out the compass and sextant for the main model either... never saw any real close-ups like this before, in such rough shape or otherwise. But, dang.

The then-new ship design grew on me over time, but if they're getting all Pompeii on the hull when the thing was made, you know something's not quite right...

The OP is surely the best of 2024, and probably from 2025-8675309 as this one's hard to top. It truly is a terrific find. Still a shame to have seen so much of it decompose, those lemon chiffon yellow sensor grid decals and all.

That's a very old photo. The "UGLY" panel lines were removed when the model was refurbished for "Generations," so that photo must be from the early '90s, between shooting for "The Best of Both Worlds Part II" and the filming of the movie (probably from when the model was first un-crated for the movie, before work on it began). This page has photos of the model from only a couple years ago, and you can see what kind of shape it's in now. You can see where the UGLY, um, isn't, and that the worst damage on the model now is some schmutz left over from the "battle damage" of the first torpedo hit in GEN.

I'd like to think that some of the guys who patched up the Ent after a battle (especially if it's BOTW, they need a little unwinding) hated the new 'lines'/look of the ship (I sure see a sharp change between it and say, the ambassadors, Excelsiors, and even that 'cheyenne' generation) and just added it as a soft joke. Much like a bird landing on the wrong carrier, it'll be vandalized all to heck and back.

But it did its job so no one cared for years :V
