I still can't get over how they think downtown detroit is approached by a 2 lane road in an empty cornfield with windmills on either side.

The setting was laughably bad, and distractingly so.

No, zero. It was Chicago.

I mean... that opening shot when you see the GM building? That skyline can only be seen from the Canadian side. Across the river. Whoever did that effects shot clearly didn't even google maps the area for reference.

Damn, I didn't expect to see this thread get revived. Still a little annoyed that my extensive review went unanswered...and killed the discussion.

Now that the thread is live again, I wanted to remark on something I found odd.

The Blu-Ray/DVD release for the show has a big banner on the top saying "SEASON 1." Obviously, the show ended with some remarkably bold sequel-bait, but what are the odds that, God forbid, another season of post-Justified actually comes to pass that it'll be called "City Primeval"? Boyd is going in the opposite direction. It is not going to be set in the titular city primeval. It probably wouldn't be set in a city at all (though, maybe I shouldn't put it past them if they thought these eight episodes were a good portfolio piece for showing they could top one of the best endings of a TV series ever to not have Boyd mix up his north and south and try to cut through Detroit to get to Mexico).

Still a little annoyed that my extensive review went unanswered...and killed the discussion.

I felt like life was too short to keep reiterating "This was badly done and a bad idea and it makes me angry how bad it was," especially when there'd only be disagreement in degree and not of kind.

I did laugh when I saw this interview with Olyphant:

“I was also cautioning Dave and Michael, ‘Guys, if you bring Walt back at the very end of this story, you better fucking deliver on the first seven,” he said. “Because the worst thing that can happen is the audience feels, when they see Walt, Man, you guys put us through all this just to get to that?‘ So it was such a big swing, such a bold idea. I was super excited about it, and I knew Walt was interested. So I was thrilled by it. And it just made us dig deeper on every episode prior. I said, ‘You can’t end it like it feels like a layup, like we’re apologizing for something, right?’ Having now seen it all, I feel like if we were so lucky to come back in some way, I am just as excited to bring back characters from the original show as I am characters from this incarnation. I feel like the writers did an amazing job of making everybody feel like they’re part of the same world.”

Well, I've got some bad news for you, there, because "You guys put us through all this just to get to that?" is a lot kinder than my actual reaction.

Yeah, that's fair.

To be clear, I wasn't directing that at you specifically. We had so many people chatting about this show at the beginning and then it trickled off to nothing by the end, alas.

Well, I've got some bad news for you, there, because "You guys put us through all this just to get to that?" is a lot kinder than my actual reaction.

Well, at least he recognized the risk of that play, even if you and I disagree on whether they pulled it off or not.

I'm still hopeful for some kind continuation because I'm always all in for Olyphant and Goggins squaring off against each other, no matter the situation or set-up.
