Ok. What is the chance of a Picard spinoff?

If we're in 2025 and there's still nothing, then I'll say, "That ship has sailed!"
Just this week Terry Matalas said there's nothing in development now (not an infinite amount of money...), but gave a time frame of a year, year-and-a-half... when something might happen.

Link should jump to the YouTube time index with the exact quote.

Hell, I don't even like the idea of the show, but I'm still sure we'll get something.

I just think it will come after Strange New Worlds has completed a long and healthy run of at least 5 seasons.

That, or it will be the eventually become one of these upcoming TV movies

I'd take his words with a grain of salt.

Alex Kurtzman has said in the past that there were two female-led shows in development (given that Starfleet Academy and Section 31 have both been known quantities since 2018, there's no need for secrecy on that front).

He's also said that there were projects in development:

https://trekmovie.com/2022/07/24/al...-two-new-star-trek-series-are-in-development/

https://trekmovie.com/2023/10/14/al...dates-teases-exciting-new-star-trek-projects/

Bottom Line: Terry is not going to open his mouth without Alex Kurtzman's blessing. If it means lying through his teeth to appease YouTube, so be it.

I don't see it going past five seasons (especially not when there are new shows in development).

Disco couldn't do it (after five seasons, shows start getting expensive).

Disco also had its order episode cut per season, from 15 to 14 to 13 to 10.

Yet those extra episodes add up to a full ten-episode season.

So, nothing stops Legacy from going six seasons total, if they keep seasons lengths to ten episodes.

More like they had initial 13 episode season orders with extra episodes added on. Season 5 was the only season produced knowing Netflix was out. Hence 10 episodes instead of 13.

One key indicator of SNW running 4 or 5 seasons will be if they try and film a season after 3 back to back.

Why would that be an indicator? There’s exactly one example of that happening with Star Trek. And that series was always designed to be three seasons.

Disco was cancelled suddenly.

One month, they were saying, "Oh, no ... We're not cancelled. They've said nothing to us about it."

The next month ... Poof. They were gone. Cancelled. :(

Since Section 31 has been downgraded from show to TV Movie and is in "pre-production" instead of "in-development", I'm not going to count that.

I'm assuming the two shows are going to be Starfleet Academy with Tilly as the lead (or a female cadet as the lead) and Legacy with Seven as the lead. I could be wrong, but that's what I'm going with for now.

I don't really expect Legacy to go five seasons. Though I wouldn't complain if it did. I expect that if you put Picard's run and Legacy's run together (if it happens), then it'll add up to a total episode count within the ballpark of Discovery's. Which works for me, since I view Legacy as an extension of Picard anyway.

I'm guessing SFA is an open secret by now. :shifty:

Oh, God. I just watched it. He's trying very hard not to say something.

Or, let me put it another way.

Kruge: "He's hiding something."
Maltz: "How can you tell that?"
Kruge: "I trust my instincts."

He doesn't need to say anything. I can tell by the look on his face and the way he stumbled through that answer. Something's going on, nothing's finalized (and is thus technically not in development), and he can't talk about shit. So, he has to deflect and throw up a smokescreen. The body language and the way he muddled through that answer gave everything away.

EDITED TO ADD: If there was definitely nothing going on, his body language would've been very different, VERY different, and he would've said something along the lines of, "It would be nice if we had a continuation, we'd love to do it, we wish we could do it, no word on it, show your support by letting ____ know." He'd give a straight, concise answer and would look properly composed instead of sounding like he just hit a deer on the road in the middle of nowhere at midnight.

Oddly specific.

But, yeah, having hit a deer recently definitely not organized when calling it in.
I was driving home from work one night. A deer randomly crossed the street. I didn't expect it at all. Then I SLAMMED on the brakes as HARD as I could. Not hard enough. I slowed down to the point where the deer wasn't killed, but it bounced to the other side of the road as I made contact. It was on the ground. I was afraid about what might've happened. Then it got up, and continued on. I was lucky.

Similar situation. It thankfully jumped as I swerved snd braked. Scary, car needed repair and I'm over deer.

Glad you're so lucky and ok

Something might have changed recently (which makes sense as the strikes are over...) so he wouldn't have been used to the usual answers he'd give during his Inglorious Treksperts appearances. And again, the "if it happened" timeframe being oddly specific...

I'd rather not speculate (I've gotten burned in the past when I've done it. :( )

It reminds me of a post Dave Blass wrote on Twitter last year (which has stuck with me). Make of it what you will:

https://twitter.com/DaveBlass/status/1505988299428556800?s=19

Starting work today on my new passion project. A reboot of "The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh". I can't believe no one has done a reboot yet. A whole new generation will get to discover it. youtube.com/watch?v=sv5W7X…

A remake of a campy (?) 70's film was not on my bingo card (there's been no mention in the trades about it, either :shifty: ).

The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh? That trailer is both the best and worst thing I've ever seen.

Paramount is not going to cease producing Trek.

You mean WB Discovery. Zaslav will produce Star Trek, but thankfully it's unlikely to be Secret Hideout.

New regime if this merger happens.

Paramount will have to merge/be absorbed with someone in order to stay afloat, so change is coming in 2024 : ) It will be fun to see how this plays out.

Is it?

Discovery gave the world Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. :shifty:

Warner has its own debt issues to deal with stemming from ITS merger with Discovery Networks.

There's nothing to be gained from piling debt upon debt.

Netflix has been angling for a studio (it's been staring longingly at Paramount's studio in L.A.).

David Ellison's Skydance Media is also a contender (and yes, he is the son of Oracle founder Larry Ellison).
