What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I've never understood this argument myself. Science fiction is just as valid an emphasis as science fiction, and just because it's fiction doesn't mean there shouldn't be rules. If Picard suddenly pulled out a wand and revealed that he'd been a Ravenclaw prefect at Hogwarts prior to attending Starfleet Academy and although his charms work was rusty he was still reasonably good at transfigurations it would certainly be "anything goes", but it would absolutely violate the in-universe rules of Star Trek.

People fixate too much on rules. “Is it entertaining?”, is the only thing I’m worried about.

Darn right! Everyone knows Picard should be a Gryffindor! :p

Do you think that's how

Jack Crusher came into existence?

I always suspected that Beverly wanted a child and deliberately chose not to take her meds so that she would have Jack - and of course deliberately concealed Jack's existence from Picard. But I guess she can forget a dose just like anyone else.

Yes, I think that was Jack's origin, and if it was deliberate, I find it pretty appalling. Picard should have at least known after the fact, and really Beverly should have discussed the matter with him beforehand.

No need for spoiler tags for Season 3 of Picard. We’re past the 6 month window.

Like a cartoon crossover. These things frighteningly signal Star Trek already told every story it had to.

But although I dont like nor watch SNW and LD (I quit Star Trek after STD S1 first 3 or so episodes) (except for the musical and cartoon I regret curiosity bested me), I grew more respect for the producers just today when I read they included the two red blinking tubes and even named then to canon. Guys are doing homework at least

This is frightening...why?

I cant really put it in words. Iam frightened there will be no more good Star Trek. It is and will be all bad. It feels worse than if there was not any Star trek at all.

ofc I can and will choose to not watch it. I feel just strangely sullied to have watched the musical. Blame the internet

There are Trek episodes I shun as well. But still plenty of good ones.

The musical was brilliant. So was the LD crossover. SNW by and large has been excellent. If you don't like the comedy or musical episodes try the grim war episode.

This makes little sense to me. If it's bad, you don't watch it. Life continues on.

Star Trek has never been above gimmick episodes so this feels unnecessarily fatalistic.

It took awhile, but I feel like the hit/miss ratio of Kurtzman Trek is now better than any previous eras.
  • DIS was all over the place in the first two seasons, but has been pretty consistently mid-to-good from Season 3 onward.
  • Picard Season 1 was a weird mix of excellent and bad. Season 2 was hot garbage. Season 3 was good for what it was (pure fanservice for old folks).
  • Lower Decks was a bit mid in its first season, but has been great since.
  • Prodigy has been great.
  • Strange New Worlds, so far, has been great.
Not sure any of these are controversial however.
