what if the Borg hadn't found the Enterprise in tbobw1 therefore no Locutus?

I wonder if whomever was there would also end up trying ramming into the cube at warp,, and if it would work. I would imagine at least one of the ships at Wolf tried to ram the cube and failed.

Hard to say. Given that Picard mowed down two Borg with a 450-year-old weapon design (i.e. a Thompson M1928), the Borg seem to have trouble dealing with simple kinetic damage. But they might have designed their ships so that they can absorb and disperse it.

Which would make sense if the Enterprise-D was the only Galaxy Class in the fleet. Unless there's something that makes the Enterprise-D stronger than other ships of the same class.

Probably, it simply received a 20% bonus on its WPN and DEF attributes, by virtue of it being the flagship. The presence of Picard may have meant an additional roll modifier, too.

It may also be the Collective simply doesn't care enough about the potential loss of a few drones to send them out prepared for all possible forms of attacks, even (to them) less conventional ones.

After all, we see that even the simple retuning of a phaser results in a few succesful shots before they 'adapt', and in this case the Borg never followed up on trying to get to Picard.

True. But given that high-velocity kinetic projectiles are probably common enough, I would think that the Borg would just have their drones pre-adapted to them. Unless they couldn't... it may be easier for them to adapt to energy discharge than to actual kinetic damage. Hence Worf's ability to kill one with his mek'leth.

The Borg would have eventually adapted to the machine-gun fire. Only reason we don't see them do it is because Picard only shot at them to get access to the bits from one drone. After he did that, there was no further point to it.

In all the worlds they've assimilated, are you telling me that the Borg have never faced projectile weapons? If it were possible for them to adapt to high velocity projectiles, they should have done it long ago.

But like I said, Picard only used the guns once - to shoot at those two Borg so he could get at their circuits. If anyone had shot at them again later, I'm sure they would have adapted.

Logically, a species that can instantly develop shields for energy weapons must also be able to do so for bullets.
