Fallout: The Television Series

It's very much a critique on American Imperialism, the "Good Old Days" philosophy, militarism and capitalism.

If it's a series, why wouldn't you want multiple seasons? (Assuming it's good). Or are you worried about premature cancellation?
One would at least expect two seasons, which is fairly industry standard.

I'm just hoping they use this as a kick off for the next Fallout game.

Unless its a planned limited series, Most series plan for more than 1 season From Rosanne to Star Trek to Carsashions ..

And most don't get a multiple season commitment unless they do, like StarGate SG1 got a 5 year commitment, not to say if it tanked they wouldn't cancel it, but having a multiple season commitment isn't the norm. Take Space Above and Beyond, Firefly, Etc.

So I'm encouraged that they actually have a plan for multiple seasons instead of winging it.

Was Ho hum about the series, but the trailer REALLY impressed me. They put some time and effort into it, unlike most video game adaptions ( COUGH HALO COUGH)

The latter. I'm worried they are writing a multi-season storyline without a multi-season commitment.
The best way to make sure it gets more seasons is for as many people as possible to watch it.

Amazon seem to have a slightly less itchy trigger finger than Netflix do when it comes to their shows. Unless this really bombs, I think it'll make it to at least three seasons.

I appreciate them having a plan. I just hope they have a plan for how to end things if they dont get as many seasons as they wanted/expected.

It has a very different approach to post-apocalypse, since there is a divergence point between the Fallout History and American history. There is a larger emphasis on 50s style Americana culture, and a retro-future view, with different technology style.
Basically the 50s never ended for them, well at least until the Great War in 2077 where everything got nuked.

As I understand it, the key point of divergence is that the transistor was never invented, so electronics never got past the 1940's level of electromechanics. That plus I think the Soviets landed on the moon first. I think the mass adoption of fission power is meant to be a more recent thing and a result of the ongoing oil shortages.

I always assumed that the 50's Americana style (right down to the fashion and music) was a result of a deliberate mid-21st century cultural regression. The whole world is falling apart so America does what it does best; look inward, pretend everything is fine, and make like they're back in a simpler time (that never actually existed, and belies the fact that simple does not mean "better", but that's never stopped nostalgia before.)

That about sums it up, though other countries collapse like in the Middle East as resources are shrinking, especially oil.

Fission is newer, as are several robotic inventions. Power Armor, of various stripes, is produced in response to Chinese threats. Paranoia and Chinese infiltration is common in the USA.

And yes, everyone acts like it's fine. It's all fine.

they showed a short teaser at the Game Awards, all of it was footage we already seen, except at the very start, it show's Walton Goggins sans Ghoul makeup standing in front of a vault door labelled 4. If it wasn't a scene shot for the teaser, it might be a clue to his pre-war origin. I think his character might have made commercials for Vault-tec.

edit: I completely forgot we saw his character pre-war in the original trailer, wearing a Vault-Tec coloured cowboy outfit riding a horse.

So yeah I think he worked for Vault-Tec in some way pre-war.
