Cobra Kai - The Karate Kid Saga Continues

Looks like the final season will be delayed now that the writer's strike has gone ahead. I was hoping it would be in the can already. Hope the situation gets resolved quickly.
Seems weird that they didn't finish the writing already! And with Xolo"s Blue Beetle coming out, I would think he would be busy with the press in August

I'm guessing they had other commitments. With most shows these days, they have shorter seasons, which allow them to quickly move on to other projects when they're done. In this case, it likely coincided with them not being available until more recently.

Well holy sh*t! Karate Kid crossover movie between Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio to be released in December 2024!!!

Even though different writer was announced, i would hope that the Cobra Kai crew were heavily consulted .

With the rush job, i am not sure the movie will turn out anywhere as near as good as season 6.... but if there is some kind of movie teaser/end credit/cameo that ties into the movie ... that will be a big boost

Otherwise its like Sony trying to make a Spider-man universe movie without Marvel

My hope is that it will be connected and Jackie Chan might show up at the end of Cobra Kai. Why I think this is because we probably should have gotten the final season of Cobra Kai by now if it had not been for the writer and actor strikes and that may have been the original intent with the announcement coming after the reveal.

Last season wasn’t that good. Liked what came before it. The one actress did School Spirits, and that show was good. But I doubt it will get renewed.

I hope this next season gets back to how good this show was when it first started on YouTube Red.

Yeah, I know the writers of the show have said only things within the Miyagiverse, but it's not as if their philiosophies are incompatible or mutually exclusive to one another. The major difference is in the region where they both come from; Miyagi from Japan, and Jackie Chan's character from China. With the movie going forward and featuring them both, a cameo seems more likely.

And if anyone's wondering what we're talking about, here's the announcement:

...Miyagi from Japan
Okinawa, actually. There's a bigger difference between the two than most westerners realize. Culture, food, dialect, martial arts usage, etc.

But yes, from a purely philosophical POV as an instructor and purveyor of "good" martial arts practices, the two should be somewhat compatible. The differences, however, might be humorous to explore in the production.

That kinda just blew my mind. I think I need to sit down for a bit. #whaaaaaaaT?

Best case scenario is that it doesn't outright contradict Cobra Kai, imo...

I don't see why they would. That would alienate the millions of people who have embraced Cobra Kai and made it a huge success. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they bring in Chan during the last episode, to create a bridge between the show and the movie.

In a perfect world that is true, but since this is their final season (and assuming the franchise will be done at that point), they may not actually care if they piss off a large block of the fanbase and go balls-out into the Twighlight Zone.

I mean, shit, look at the Sopranos ending. That thing will live forever in infamy as probably one of the absolute worst series endings in all of TV history. That's some shit right there... NuBSG also applies, but to a vastly lesser extent. They actually managed to have a traditional ending, albeit grossly unsatisfying for pretty much everyone. However, RDM (or maybe it was David Eick, I can't remember) went on record saying how much he LOVED the Sopranos ending and would have wanted a similar thing for NuBSG, but I think he also said that he didn't want the death threats that David Chase got for doing that, so he opted for what we ultimately saw.

A bit of a digression, admittedly, but it is topical, and there is a precedent.

I can’t disagree with any of that. Spot on about the Sopranos and BSG. That being said, had James Gandolfini not passed away when he did, I can’t believe Chase wouldn’t have produced a follow movie at some point.

I guess, in my mind, the new KK movie would almost be a spin-off of Cobra Kai, while not necessarily bringing in all the elements of the show, but also not ignoring it. I do have to say that a Johnny/Mr. Han meet up would provide some good comedy.
