Outstanding! It would have been a horrible waste to kill it wholesale, especially if it meant never seeing the in-the-can S2. Glad it worked out. We'll probably get to Season 3 before Netflix kills it again.

I'm still bitter about Dark Crystal being cancelled. :mad:
 
Yes, that was a factor, but irrespective of the unfortunate timing of CV19, there was also the extraordinary expense involved in Henson Productions making all the practical costumes and sets, as opposed to an all-CG production, which some wanted to do. They wanted to preserve the look and feel of the original movie, supplemented with CG in post, and it cost them big-time. Had COVID not happened, or had they done all-CG, it probably could have survived. Both factors occurring simultaneously, despite winning an Emmy for "Outstanding Children's Program", finished it off.

It's also no secret that Netflix's propensity for throwing tons of money (back when they had it) to other, less popular, programming put them in a hole. There were also allegations of Netflix management misleading investors on just how bad the subscription bleeding and fiduciary mismanagement was. I'm sure that had been going on for some time as another possible contributing factor before the practice became completely unsustainable.

In fine, let's just say that someone didn't come up with this scene for no apparent reason:

But i live in Spain Where we can't whatch lower decks thanks to skyshowtime.

Also the last time Prodigy arrive around 1 year later to skyshowtime from Paramount+ Broadcast. So horrible news :D.

Didn't a fire burn down most of those sets? That was probably a very expensive show to make and if most of the sets were burned down, that's unfortunate but a good reason the show was cancelled. It would have been nice to see it continue though.

I only recall that they destroyed the sets after the cancellation, as they couldn't afford the storage space to keep them protected. I may be mis-remembering. It's entirely possible that there was a fire, but I can't find any details any more other than the general canceled announcement.

Does not sound bad.

In the comments, he also confirms that the ending of season 2 leaves "an open doorway for more". The plan, as far as the showrunners are concerned, is not to end with season 2.

The real-life inspiration for the vehicle replicator. That was the scene that really sold me on Prodigy (allthough the pilot was solid, a new series always needs some time to sink in as you get to know the premise and the characters).
